| So you all think 1400 kids should all share one playground? Because that seems very safe. |
DGS sent an email to the Lafayette community on Friday afternoon announcing that it was going to be discussed on the Tuesday meeting. No one has told the Lafayette community that its renovation might not be done in time -- if that's what they are telling the Murch community, it would be good to let Lafayette know. I agree that the transportation issues could be resolved with busses. However, right now the space where Lafayette's new school playground is going to go is where the cafeteria/gym tent is. So with no school playground, all 1400 kids will be sharing the park playground. That doesn't seem very safe. Also, I'd be interested to hear evacuation plans. Lafayette's current plan is to evacuate to Blessed Sacrament in case of an emergency; can Blessed Sacrament also handle 700 Murch students? How would after care work? Is there room for aftercare for both schools? Is the pumping in the trailers sturdy enough to be used for two additional years? What about the electrical supply -- the trailers currently use the main building's electricity, which obviously isn't being used beyond the workers' tools. Is the electrical circuit sufficient to power both the trailers and the school in full use? |
I believe this is also very true. The current plans doesn't have the trailers dismantled until November anyhow. |
They would probably consider staggering school hours to accommodate the additional students to try to alleviate not only the traffic problems, but the number of students on the playground. |
That would be interesting. So one group would go from, say, 8-2 and the other from 12-6? I can't imagine that making the second, afternoon group very happy. |
They already stagger the recesses for the 6 grades who currently use it and it's packed (100 kids per grade.) You'd have to go deep into the afternoon.... |
Share the new cafeteria - then 2 playgrounds? Or have some kids eat in their classrooms. |
Eating in classrooms is what all Murch kids do already so this wouldn't be any different. Murch after care is at the church across the street of Murch so if there is bussing them there wouldn't be an aftercare issue. |

I love the way all the Lafayette people come here with doom and gloom scenarios. Yes, there needs to be proper planning, but there is simply no reason to build another demountable farm further away when a perfectly good one exists.
When was the last time Lafayette students needed to be evacuated to Blessed Sacrament? |
All that's been happening lately, you never know. |
| As a Lafayette parent, I would be fine with the plan as long as there was bussing (that Murch parents would actually use!), the cafeteria/gym tent and other trailers on the space designated for the school playground could come down, and money for extra maintenance of the park playground was part of the budget. Staggering times for drop off/pick up by at least 30 minutes would be a good idea too. This is assuming that the plumbing/electrical parts of the trailers could withstand another two years of use. |

All that's been happening, in Chevy Chase?
Okey dokey. |
| I thought that the "demountable farm" from Hearst was going to be trucked over to Murch. |
If the gym came down... what would Murch use for a gym? |
The one in the new facility, just like the Lafayette kids. |
