| Whoa. Seriously? I can't even imagine the logistics, let alone how that would be accomplished with DGS involved. That being said, those 700 Murch kids have to go somewhere. |
But if you saw the alternative plans they are trying to squeeze in on the Murch plans, you would see that the Lafayette layout is enormously spacious by comparison. |
Having just seen the set up a Lafayette yesterday - I can't even imagine. They are PACKED onto that baseball field. |
May be "packed" but the classrooms are the same size regardless of how much the trailers are spaced out. And there is the DC public park space to play on. Don't know the best solution, but that is a lot more that Murch would have it they try to out swing space on Murch land. |
| Well, this is the same DGS whose original proposal for Brookland Middle School had it plopped on top of Turkey Thicket Rec Center, sharing a gym and locker space with senior citizens and young families. Thank goodness the community fought them on it while they played dumb to all the reasons that would never work. In the end, their idiocy caused a delay to opening for an additional year. |
| No truth to this. Come to the Murch Renovation Community Meeting tomorrow night and you will see. 7/1 @ 5:30 |
| We're going to be out of town tomorrow and not able to attend the community meeting. Can those who attend report back? I see that a new plan has not been posted on the DGS website -- probably don't want to give the community too much time to get riled up, given the response to the last set of plans! |
| I would be so interested to see where they plan on rehousing the Murch kids. Could be an off-site facility I suppose. There is no way they can fit enough trailers on the Murch playground. |
Do they make double decker trailers? |
This is such a terrible date and time for a meeting. Did DGS do this on purpose to limit participation and input?? Lots of people will be out of town and won't be able to make it and those in town will most likely need to leave work early to make a 5:30 start time. |
They do. We have one at Hearst. It is pretty nice actually (not nicer than a new building, but nice for a trailer). |
Could they use those at Murch ? |
|
The problem with putting a double decker trailer city on Murch while construction is on going is that they would have to be on the NPS land which hasn't been approved but also there would be zero outdoor space due to construction, construction items and trailer city.
Hearst and Lafayette has vast amount of land compared to Murch which is really just a city block. |
| If they can do it - even if it's an "inconvenience" for the neighbors and kids attending. They should. And send the $7M to my crumbling EOTP school. |
|
Very unlikely the kids will stay on-site during renovations due to space and safety issues. Unlikely they will go to Lafayette though it cannot be completely ruled out. Possible they will do a trailer park a la Lafayette in another location.
I hear this will be discussed at tomorrow's meeting but I don't know if any decision will be announced. Probably not. |
