Community has been told all will be fixed and school will be ready to open for the kids on Monday.

They should just cut down all of the big trees, which are a potential hazard to the school and to power lines.

I saw the first tree a minute after it fell. AMA

My public high school in California had ~2400 and it was easy-peasy, though that was in the burbs so perhaps that makes a difference.

As does the fact that it was HIGH SCHOOL and was presumably planned to be that big, and where kids were getting themselves to school and generally competent with things like crossing streets, etc.

Not elementary school grounds intended to serve 700 kids ages 4 to 11.

Less than 15 years ago Lafayette elementary had a population of under 500! Just recently have these schools experienced such a population boom.

If traffic is going to be a problem having Murch and Lafayette students on the same property, can't DC just ban street parking on more streets in the area, effectively widening them? This would also move traffic faster. A win-win.

Where would the residents of said streets park? Some have alley parking, some do not.

Why do entitled people think they have a right to park on public streets? Build a driveway, rent a space somewhere or use Bikeshare/Uber/ZipCar/Walk.

Perhaps because they paid a premium to move to the neighborhood & one of its features is plenty of street parking. I never would have moved to the neighborhood if there wasn't street parking.

I have lived in many different neighborhoods in many wards in this city over the last forty years and I have never lived in one where street parking, though harder to find in some areas than in others, was not only permitted but expected by nearly all of the residents. If that's entitlement then you will need lob your little grenades at people in Shepard Park, the Hill, Columbia Hgts, etc.

BTW, I don't live near Lafayette.

Check your privilege, people! Is it too much of a sacrifice to give up some street parking for 18 months so that other students can have safe, efficient routes to their temporary school? Especially after the taxpayers of the District of Columbia are paying a lot right now to build a brand new and renovated school for YOUR kids! DC=One City!
