It wasn’t just about walking distance. There was a mention of FARMS rates. A lot of talk about what their occupation was and acting like they either knew more than the BOE or that they were entitled to more from MCPS because they were scientists. People also used language in emails like segregation, bussing and redlining. Montoya addressed this today. In earlier meetings these racist and classist comments were addressed after Farmland testimony. You can’t cry about the state of your building and then complain when you’re given a brand new one 15 minutes away UNLESS you’re really complaining about WHO you would have to share the school with. We aren’t stupid! |
She yelled "translate" |
It is important to call out racism but it needs to be specific. E.g. "when you say x, it implies y and makes z kids feel unwelcome". Simply calling people "racist" is not helpful. I didn't hear the whole session but I did hear Wolff talking about how long they spent on the boundary study and how people don't realize that, when in fact the concern is about Option H being introduced quite late in the process. And she knows that. She was just regurgitating talking points. I am someone who thinks they should move Wootton to Crown and I found the way she was talking to be very frustrating and dismissive. |

Yes, any MCPS arts program will suck. If you want a true music program, apply to Duke Ellington. Fact is all of the programs are a joke without accountability. Principals will still do what they want. Outmigration of the richest residents is still happening and those of us less cannot afford your pet projects. |
With the cell phone tower and unlimited radiation? No thanks! |
But they had to move the boundary to relocate it. So that makes it a closure. |
Reduced enrollment equals less teachers. Less teachers equals less course options. Less course options equal lower levels not higher |
She's on leave from MCPS.... she has to support MCPS if she wants a job to go back to. |
I didn’t hear anything about how MCPS is changing its admissions process to ensure more Black and Hispanic kids to the new regional programs. So how is the new model going to ensure more Black and Brown kids get admitted and enrolled? |
Very few are going to get enrolled regardless of race and transportation will be a huge issue. |
This will be an issue at many schools. |
The mention of FARMS rates was from a father from Magruder. It’s a high FARMS school that is now getting a short end of the stick. It’s not in the CIP and its repairs are now postponed to 2033. So he is a racist? One guy mentioned that he is a scientist, and data should drive decisions. Very racist of him! Montoya and Wolf mentioned that they are lawyers. Are they racist for that? |
What? Montoya does not and has not worked for MCPS. |
The regional program proposal put QO in region 5 with no more access to Poolesville magnets or any programs with a successful track record. Not sure they are the winners here. Of course now that the board gave Taylor the green light to do whatever he wants with the regional programs, I guess that could change again. |
