As an HR person, I can tell you people need to be providing doctor's notes if this is the system.

The amount of sick leave abuse that goes on is well...sickening.

And people fake doctor's notes.

Yes, I work for government.

The medical system could never handle that. It is a terrible idea.

When i get a cold it lasts like 2 weeks. Am I supposed to take 10 days off because of the sniffles?

Today in a meeting, in walks someone with a bright red nose, sniffing and coughing, wiping their face with their hand. I eventually had to get up and leave as I just couldn't risk another infection. And this in a place where you don't even have to come in.

Put on a mask if you're that worried.

As well all know, masks have only a marginal effect on transmission risk, meaning they reduce but do not even come close to eliminating it. There is no risk of transmission if a carrier stays home. If there is no or low cost to staying home, then the obvious solution is to stay home.

What are you talking about? We absolutely know that masks are very effective against viral transmission.

Not unless its a properly fitted N95. Viruses spread like aerosol so the particles will easily leak out and spread through the air.

Hold your breath. You're unlikely to get respiratory infections if you just stop breathing.

So you're totally fine with spreading whatever you have to unsuspecting people, even though it could have dire consequences for them or their family members?

Yes. So wear a mask or stay home forever.

Do you know how overwhelmed physicians are right now? Add in that Urgent Care copays are absurd. Someone can be sick without need to see a physician. Ideally, you would only go with a fever that wont respond to medication, a fever lasting longer than 3 days, a hx of asthma, hx of frequent pneumonia or bronchitis, or if you think its something that could be helped by Tamiflu or ear/strep that's treatable.

Anyone with a deductible at the beginning of the year is looking at hundreds of dollars to provide HR with a note that says they have a virus and arent communicable and to return when symptoms are gone, usually 2-7 days.

Adding that sick leave can also be used for kids. Rinse repeat the above for kids.

Sure. The healthy person should stay at home so you sick, selfish morons can spread the disease. Do you even realize how unbelievably stupid you sound?

Oh look, another selfish dumbass came to show off just how ignorant he/she is. How refreshing.

Oh look, another loser who wants to stay home for every sniffle and period pang!

I'm not the one possibly killing people. Eff off.

Ok then hopefully you won’t be saddled with one of those colleagues who never shows up to work and you’re picking up the slack. Oh and paying the salaries of these people through tax dollars. This is more likely in government where no one is able to do anything about it. In my work place we don’t start asking for doctors notes until it’s obvious the person is a sick leave abuser loser.

All any of you can control is yourself. This insatiable need to control and scold other people is nuts. And more notably, a complete waste of time and a path to being some weird low level angry person all the time.

Wash your own damn hands and wear a mask if it’s your thing. And just move on with your life.

I’m on week 3 here. 2 weeks of flu sickness and then 1 week of ear/throat pain. No telework because I’m a fed and mountains of work that needs done. Luckily I was most sick during the holiday when I was already off and I took some sick leave. Telework would be such a help. I’d never want to get coworkers sick.

Post Covid everyone is just sick more often.

Nah, I can and will make sure that assh0les who insist on coming in with COVID and flu get sent home. I am protecting myself and my family. You can choose to be a doormat if you want.

I work for a big company and we have unlimited sick leave, no note required. If it’s over 5 days, manager discretion. It’s not abused, what happens is that people…don’t come to work sick. We’re not lazy Feds though….
