+1 agree The zoom session I attended today was a total disgrace. Just sent me the slide if you are just going to read the same text over and over again. Give me some context instead of just the vague approved text. Totally disgusted with this process. Shame on MCPS and the BOE. Just change the boundaries and leave me tf alone if you don't want to involve or even inform me in any meaningful way. The whole release of options just seems like a sick game. |
Wheaton is still over utilized in all of these options. Did you not notice the consultants added 500 seats to Wheaton with one footnote as an "explanation" that does not remotely explain this choice? Newsflash - 500 seats did not magically.appear.at Wheaton between the first and second round of options. This is a money grad by MCPS by crying overcrowding later when it turns out o they have to BUILD that space to get the 500 seats - when there is plenty of space in the existing buildings. I'm so angry at MCPS and the consultants right now..their incompetence and disregard for the community is a disgrace. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised. |
I wonder if they looked at the elementary school capacity before deciding on which ones to split. Otherwise it’ll be a nightmare to do the elementary school boundary redistricting after they split articulate so many elementary schools at this time. If that’s not factored in then they should say they will fix the split articulations afterwards. |
The main differences seem to be in the boundaries between WJ/Woodward/Wheaton, and between Einstein/Northwood/Blair. If you follow those lines you can see several changes from option to option. |
This makes sense there’s so much MFH development proposed in the current boundary near the mall for example. Need to leave capacity there vs filling it up. |
| I think we just need a better description of the programs and how that ties in. Which school is getting Medical? That might make a lot of sense for WJ, given proximity to Fernwood and all the medical offices. WJ students have interned over there for at least the last couple of years. |
Wouldn't it be nice if they documented how much housing is in the pipeline within each boundary? They could do that, but since I doubt they actually did that analysis my guess is this isn't the reason. Vague vibes that "there's so much MFH development" in a particular boundary is not a good enough reason to leave some schools overcrowded and others significantly under capacity. |
It’s near the metro stations, primarily on the West side of the county. That’s been the plan for I don’t know how many decades now. White Flint will be the biggest of all and will need high school space. |
That is a great idea and would reduce the load at Wheaton, which already has the outstanding Engineering program. |
| I like these options a lot better. |
Or just go look at the MCPS Capital Improvement Program and you’ll see the authorized number of new developments tied to each cluster. I did this in two minutes. WJ has 11,340 units approved but unbuilt and only 440 units are single family homes. |
You're referring to a 400 page document. No, most people can't find this info if they don't know it's there and where it is. Certainly not in 2 minutes. Care to share? |
Btw I found the number you are referencing. No, there isn't a clear table comparing "the number of new developments tied.to each cluster" There is a narrative in each cluster chapter that includes information on housing included in approved and proposed land use plans. For the DCC, those total over 35,000 units. I do not see any indication that the consultants did a rigorous analysis of the development pipeline. |
There’s a pdf of each cluster. Try making an effort instead of being force-fed info and then complaining that you can’t be bothered to do the bare minimum of looking up what you want. |
You sound really angry - are you okay? Your previous post implied it is easy to identify the housing in the pipeline for each cluster. But it would take at least an hour or 2 to compile the info for each cluster and compare them. The consultants should have done this and presented it. Btw I added up 35,000 housing units in land use plans in the DCC. |
