Are people canceling summer vacations or not really that concerned yet?

So it’s OK for you to change plans and try to live within your budget, but when our country realizes that it can’t continue borrowing a third of its expenditures every year, it’s “reckless and cruel” to cut spending.

This country is seeking to add 4 trillion to the debt ceiling so it can give tax cuts to the rich. Spare me the faux fiscal conservatism.

Do you realize that the House budget massively increases the deficit? It will increase borrowing. Wake up. The expenditure cuts are to screw ordinary folks while the billionaires get tax cuts.

This.

This, how are MAGA supporters so stupid. You can't talk about fiscal responsibility yet be OK with the $4T added to the debt (not to mention that talking about US debt as if it is analogous to household debt is asinine but I digress).

Republican administrations tend to worsen the deficit (see Bush, Trump 1st term) and the economy overall anyway. Then a more responsible Democratic administration has to come in to clean up the mess.

lol. Ok.

I mean I get it. It’s going to chaos this summer but it will probably only get worse economy-wise and everyone hating the US-wise. So it’s now or possibly never?

You sound like someone who has never gone through a lay off. Once you have you get a little less flippant about dropping thousands of dollars you might soon need for bills and expenses on completely voluntary travel.

On the fence. Tickets (most expensive part of trip) are going to expire (we’ve rescheduled this trip twice) so thinking we might go but spend very modestly there which is possible, would still be about 3k though.
If dh loses his job we will cancel.

Not the right venue for this argument, but this is a ridiculous assertion.

That poster is 💯 correct.

NP. By and large, Republican policies are awful for the economy. Republican leadership is highly correlated with recession. Quite literally, 10 of the last 11 recessions happened under Republican presidents.

Weirdly, when polled, people tend to believe that Republicans are terrible on social issues but good on fiscal issues, but this is absolutely incorrect. They are terrible on all of it. And our country will see this soon.

So no, I don't think anyone, even in the private sector, should be planning a big summer trip.

Not cancelled so far, but holding off on booking our usual annual multi-family beach week as two of the families have career fed employees as the primary breadwinners. Would previously have said there was no reason for concern about their particular positions, but as we've seen, these firings are not based in anyway on reason, therefore impossible to forecast.

We are still going to our second house in the Côte d'Azur for 3 months.

Well I am going to my 3rd house for 4 months. Only the little people spend May in DC.

After the fiasco today in the WH and Trump essentially confirming he’s Putin’s pawn, we might reconsider an EU trip. They are MAD that Americans reelected Trump.
