come on people, get it together. Do better.

+1. My Target (NW DC) was as busy as ever yesterday.

And yet the e rest of the country is not spending. Good anecdote tho

We spend a $100 a day on the average. This would be hard to do for us. Stopping to get morning coffee, cigarettes, and lottery tickets. Getting another morning coffee and walk once at work. Getting a drink in the afternoon. Stopping off on the way home for some groceries. Picking the kids up and getting some fast food. Taking one kid somewhere and the other somewhere for practice.

Well, I guess consumer spending being down is a big lie. “Your Target” is all the proof we need

Consumer spending is indeed down....but this downward trend started years ago due to Covid-related inflation and also due to the crazy rising costs of housing (which also began years ago even before Covid).

This downward trend continues as food costs also rise...food/clothing/housing = necessity. It makes sense that consumer spending in all other areas begins to decline.

Interesting article from the NYT. The guy the first proposed the February 28th is a registered sex offender. Drugged and took pictures of two 18 year old girls while unconscious and posted them.

Went to prison for it too.

Keep up the good work democrats!

Luckily all the crazy Republicans and their multitude of sex offenses has immunized democrats against this.

Your kids are about to learn to be more flexible. We all need to spend less everywhere, every day because the only thing that matters to corporations is money. And the only “people” who have enough collective power to fight kleptocratic are the profit-driven corporations. And they rely on us.

They also employ people and pay taxes. Be careful what you wish for.

My blackout started Jan 20th. My credit card bill is the lowest it's been in a long time, and I have more money saved for when Trump finishes tanking the economy for those of us who are not billionaires.

My blackout will continue.

I'll not be shopping at Target again. I stopped shopping at Amazon in November 2024.

Over time, more people will join either due to belief or need.

This is not a one-day fight, my friend. This will go on for a long time. It's a marathon. Not a sprint.

Whether you were doing this for political reasons or not, good for you for minimizing credit card usage by not buying useless junk most people do not need.
Every trash day our neighborhood is awash in boxes (that no one breaks down) that brought mostly unneeded items to house overflowing with gimcrackery.

I didn't buy anything either.
But who is going to tell us whether or not the day did anything?
The government keeps statistics like that, and they aren't telling us nothing no more.
And the businesss that were hurt, they aren't going to talk either. They don't want us to know how successful it was.
Well, shut down Amazon if you have not done so already. That's a good place to start. You don't need all that crap you get on Amazon anyway. Buy stuff you need in local stores. Maybe pay a few more pennies, so what? It's good for Democracy.

Big businesses are perfectly fine operating under an authoritarian regime. As long as they get their pennies (oops, nickels now.)

I don't know what impact any of this had but I don't have the stomach for them now. It's a good time to put my spending through a fine tooth comb.
