Trump buyout: resign by Feb 6, get paid until Sept 30

If we could get more than a million to take this, it would be priceless. Everything would shut down.

No one is getting one red cent. Trump has never paid anyone probably ever. He only gets paid.

He wants people to leave quicker than he can make them.

But it appears that forced relocations are in the mix. My spouse makes 7 figures. I think I might just leave and find a consulting gig.

Propaganda

No, I'm a real person. The number of people with circumstances similar to mine is vanishingly small so I don't think my situation would work well for propaganda. I've already been on the fence about continuing in the government for various reasons that have nothing to do with politics. I've enjoyed my career and just considering leaving while the party is still fun.

If you trust Elon Musk will pay you to do jack then just send them the resignation email. So few people are going to do it that they might highlight your situation in the next OPM email blast.

I’m confused. Elon did this same thing at Twitter. Where are all of the first hand accounts of people resigning and then not getting their payouts?

That’s the point. The jobs go away. Then the government fails at its basic responsibilities and they offer an alternative. Their alternative.

It’s not as good as if they officially RIF you. If you wait for the government to lay you off, you will be given more than this.

Unless you are retiring or you really can’t figure out RTO, it doesn’t make much sense

How is a RIF better?

To someone in private industry this is a HUGE handout. Most give a few weeks to a few months. One company I worked with pushed fire dates up to end of month, so as to not let folks get health insurance for another month. I was in meeting where this was decided , big GSEs.

I’m 51 with 17 years of service, in a RIF, I’d get 52 weeks of severance plus health insurance. And that’s an actual law and is actually in my CBA, and I’d actually get it.

RIF is so much better for me.

THIS!!!

It’s an actual process which has guarantees that you will get benefits and unemployment.

The state will probably lose their minds when everyone is on unemployment like it’s covid again, but it will be legal and protected.

And who is going to replace these people? And how he is going to find maga that quick to replace them. Its not like jobs could suddenly just don’t needed anymore.

It is a trick.

Exactly right. There is no severance package. And once you resign they can terminate you at any time. Don’t be fooled people.

LOL. Government has already failed at its most basic responsibilities. Perhaps now it’ll just be a cheaper failure.

It is definitely not a good thing for people who are not ready to retire or who do not have another job lined up.

You still have to work and they can fire or reassign you at any time.

This seems like a glaring omission in the FAQ. If there is a RIF between now and Sept 30 and your position is impacted, are you exempt if you take this deal? Or can they expedite your end date to effective immediately without having to deal with severance. There’s verbiage around how the employee can choose a date earlier than Sept 30 to terminate their employment, but nothing about whether their agency or OPM can accept their resignation at an earlier date.

It is abundantly clear, and typical for Trump, that there are way more questions than answers. In a situation as important as one’s livelihood, moving forward on an uncertainty Would be foolish when you know, with reasonable certainty what the alternative is. My advice, don’t do it. Call their bluff.

You don’t need to solely “believe trump.” It is not very difficult to develop an understanding of how counterproductive most federal government jobs are simply by interacting with the agencies.

You are using the word bluff without understanding it. Actually taking buy out would be calling their bluff, when considering the responses here stating it’s all a scam.

They’ll get people to resign, thinking they can work remotely until September, and then probably just go ahead and fire them without pay. It’s a scam!
