Hayfield Football Coach Fired

Anonymous
The Hayfield principal focused resources on getting coach, staff and 30 players to his school to be a “winning football team.” Any articles about the same amount of resources going to academic side of his school to help the non-30 players get to college/jobs? Ask because sounds likes the 30 players brought in would get college bids wherever they played so they are covered for post HS. What about rest of school and post-HS? Is principal known for as much energy on those kids?

The whole situation is back-@sswards and nothing like how public school sports are designed to work.

A coach is hired to coach a public school team. He isn't supposed to "bring players with him." He is being paid to coach the kids who already attend the school. Public school kids in FCPS are assigned by boundaries and transfer opportunities are limited to very specific situations. The vast vast vast vast majority of every single FCPS HS sports team (except this one team!) are "organic" players who are assigned to that school boundary, kids who have attended that school pyramid and moved up to the next grade expecting to have a chance to participate in the school activities that are provided for them.

^ What he has been allowed to do by FCPS is coopt the school team and school resources to benefit himself financially, his private AAU team, and "his" players.

Wasn't the principal just recently hired, and knew Overton from some previous high school cheating program?

Win some games by coaching a "organic" team and you might be considered a decent coach.

Everyone is laughing at the Potomac Mills all stars and their weird entourage of puffed-up coaches and hangers-on. You are a punchline.

It’s gonna be an organic championship trophy he gets

Sorry, it will always be tarnished by the cheating and drug scandals.

If it makes you feel better, keep believing that.

Everyone who isn't part of the cheating drug posse believes that any win is not legitimate and we are all snickering at how pathetic this coach and how fragile his ego must be.

There’s that Coach Prime type hate.

Who is that? One of the assistant coaches?

Coach prime has been getting a lot of hate and experiencing racism probably because he’s Black and some of his accomplishments.

Agree about coach Prime. However, the thing with Overton seems slimier. We’re talking about high school kids here! I’d be pissed if my kid played football and was zoned for that school.

If your kid was a 5 star QB or already on track to play in college, you wouldn’t have a problem with it. The guy built a team that has attracted major college type talent to the program.

To most kids, there will come a time where they are no longer good enough to compete and that’s okay. It may just be time to focus on something else.

I don’t think true to say that other parents of stars would be fine with a coach who brings in staff that does drugs with kids.

I’m sure they’d be more so okay with the Hayfield volunteer coach that got fired than the Langley coach that just left.

Even assuming Maxprep rankings are worthless, is Hayfield not higher because West Springfield wasn’t a shut out? Also, after 9 of 15 found ineligible, are players from last year varsity getting to play?

Yes, a couple starters from last years varsity team from Hayfield still start this year

Less than 5 real Hayfield players start total (offense or defense).

The coach does not play the enormous bench. That doesnt help "his" kids stats and highlight reels.

There are actually 9 “real” Hayfield players that start tot.

The coach does play the bench, they run the score up and put in the rest of the team. Majority of the JV team plays during the second half of the game.

I’m sure he plays the bench when they’re up by 50 points. Why would any team leave their starters in that long? That’s when you start pulling from the
jv bench. That’s coaching 101.

Not this guy. He doesnt consider himself the coach of the Hayfield team, only the coach of "his" players. He wants to boost their stats and get them clips to show recruiters.

That’s just not true. This “guy” brought a lot of exposure to “real” Hayfield players. When he first came he had brought a couple Hayfield players to the University of Maryland for a visit.

The principal was hired last year. Him and Overton did not know each other prior to this year I believe.

Those are not the only 2 choices for types of coaches

Incorrect. They knew each other from working together previously. Why do you think the Overton sideshow chose Hayfield? The principal, his pal, promised to look the other way AND let him use school resources to run his business (huge financial advantage).

Not according to an observation posted by a parent in the thread that was deleted. Even if that was true, then your point is that with 22 starting positions, only 9 of them are real Hayfield players? Do you realize how absurd that is?

This is all not true b/c I have been to the games.
What is verifiable is that non-Hayfield players like the QB andr the coach's nephew are running up stats like 5 touchdowns or 280 yards in one game. Not possible if they are sitting on the bench the second half cheering on "JV players."

These lies don't even make sense.

The Varsity roster is HuGE. Why would a coach sub in players from the JV team? He would not.

They aren’t Hayfield players? They sure are wearing Hayfield uniforms, home addresses are inside Hayfield boundaries, and attend school at Hayfield.

The druggie, possible pedophile, coach was a volunteer? That's shady as hell! How many other "volunteers" who are part of this sketchy traveling circus have access to students?

Remember that creepy lady claiming to be the team coach/minister? Have all of these volunteers been background-checked and approved by FCPS?
