What's with the trend of not washing hair everyday?

In the 60s it was standard to wash hair once a week to hold a "set." Sometime in the late 60s a shampoo ad came out (might have been Prell) saying it was so gentle you could wash your hair every day. Hairstyles became looser and more casual.

I remember this from reading teen novels and advice stuff in the 1960s (graduated h.s. in 1972 by which time of course it was all long straight parted in the middle hair). If you ask google you will find many sites where the once a week shampoo was standard at the time.

I don't shampoo daily because I wash it in the shower and I shower every other day because of extremely dry skin (all my life) which is prone to eczema and itching (dr. said no daily showers). Aging has made my hair drier as well, although I can feel slight oiliness by the end of the second day.

You can also let your hair get wet without sudsing it up.

Because you stink.

If someone stinks you're smelling BO. Not their hair. Hope this helps.

No. Oily greasy hair smells way different from BO. Just because you are used to your stink doesn’t mean the rest of is want to get used to it.

Yes, it smells different because BO actually smells and hair oils do not smell. You cannot smell it. You're being dramatic and weird.

🤢 Ugh you are gross. Anyone who thinks greasy hair doesn’t smell is absolutely rank. Fix your hygiene so the rest of us can stop suffering.

Multiple people are saying in this thread that they don't think hair smells if it's being washed every other day or every two days but you're really doubling down, huh?

That’s not what PP said. They are insistent that dirty greasy hair doesn’t smell. At all. Any smell MUST be BO. It wasn’t a matter of when hair might smell but that oily hair doesn’t smell. Period.

Showering every other day is fine, particularly for people with dry skin.

Different hair have different requirements. I think we all know our hair best. I have stick straight dark hair that I used to wash daily in my teens and 20s. I had the prettiest glass hair back then. I still wash either daily or every other day because if I don’t, it gets so oily and gross. I’m 47 now and it’s a lot thinner and finer but if I don’t it feels gross. My hair looks and feels best after shampooing on day 1.

That's for people with eczema, not the general public. Dry skin and eczema are different.

People in this thread are the weirdos who insist if you're not scrubbing your anus raw with steel wool you smell like poop. When in reality just being hit with some soap or body wash and warm water is more than enough for the average person.

They likely still wash their chicken before cooking it, too.

I don’t have eczema and didn’t suggest it was good for people with eczema.

I am telling you what my dermatologist says and what works for me. I would recommend you ask your dermatologist instead of relying on blog posts.
