What's with the trend of not washing hair everyday?

I can't from far away, but I can from a few feet away. Maybe some people have more sensitive noses than others. I can also smell the outside on people -- geosmin -- but no one else in my family can.

I can't line dry any clothes outside. It smells afterwards. It's this area. Never had a problem out west.

I can also smell “the outside” on people, and on myself! It’s so gross. But my spouse thinks I am crazy when I say that. I feel so validated reading your post

Omg. I went to New York on Amtrak next to a white woman with curly hair. Her hair stank. If you are were in the quiet car last Thursday and charged your phone at the charger, I'm talking to you.

In the 60s it was standard to wash hair once a week to hold a "set." Sometime in the late 60s a shampoo ad came out (might have been Prell) saying it was so gentle you could wash your hair every day. Hairstyles became looser and more casual.

I remember this from reading teen novels and advice stuff in the 1960s (graduated h.s. in 1972 by which time of course it was all long straight parted in the middle hair). If you ask google you will find many sites where the once a week shampoo was standard at the time.

I don't shampoo daily because I wash it in the shower and I shower every other day because of extremely dry skin (all my life) which is prone to eczema and itching (dr. said no daily showers). Aging has made my hair drier as well, although I can feel slight oiliness by the end of the second day.

You can also let your hair get wet without sudsing it up.

Women in the 1950s and 1960s would go to the salon once every week and get their hair washed and done. A lot of women in big cities like my grandmother did not wash their own hair unless they couldn’t get to the salon.

Because you stink.

If someone stinks you're smelling BO. Not their hair. Hope this helps.

No. Oily greasy hair smells way different from BO. Just because you are used to your stink doesn’t mean the rest of is want to get used to it.

Yes, it smells different because BO actually smells and hair oils do not smell. You cannot smell it. You're being dramatic and weird.

Hmm, I don't think I smell the outside on people, I think I smell.the inside, like their clised-window odors and mothballed sweaters. I worked with someone who smelled musty or her clothes did. I imagined her house to be stuffy, too heated and scented by those face plug-in scent dispensers or potpourri. It was nasty and definitely indoorsy.

It's not a trend. Sigh. But sure, keep destroying your hair, boo.

Are you the same person claiming you can smell "outside"?

Seriously. These are probably the same people who claim if you're not showering twice a day and scrubbing yourself raw, you stink. When in reality most people can shower daily/every other day. Showering more than once a day leads to raw, dry skin, with micro cracks that can get infected.

You don't need to wash your hair every day.

Everyone can’t smell this? That outside smell. Ahh I didn’t know that. I have a nose like a truffle pig and it does gross me out a lot. I can smell when someone is on their period and wearing a pad.

That being said, most people do not smell if they wash their hair every other or every 3rd day.

🤢 Ugh you are gross. Anyone who thinks greasy hair doesn’t smell is absolutely rank. Fix your hygiene so the rest of us can stop suffering.

Multiple people are saying in this thread that they don't think hair smells if it's being washed every other day or every two days but you're really doubling down, huh?
