Are antivaxxers all just contrarians and conspiracy theorists?

That's a wonderful and convenient excuse. No way it has anything to do with the entire year children were not in a normal classroom environment.

Spike protein is nasty. Purposely turning your cells into spike protein factories is undesirable to say the least.

Yeah, we know you keep repeating the same disinformation from Facebook that was shown to be wrong.
https://factcheck.afp.com/posts-misrepresent-us-study-dangers-coronavirus-spike-protein

Multiple Facebook posts have shared parts of a study by US-based scientists that analysed spike proteins of the novel coronavirus. The posts suggest the study is evidence that some Covid-19 vaccines could be harmful. The claim is misleading: both the research institute that published the study and independent experts told AFP that it did not show Covid-19 vaccines are harmful.
The claim was shared here by a New Zealand-based Facebook page. It has been shared more than 100 times.

The misleading posts link to this media release about a study by researchers at the Salk Institute, a US-based nonprofit research foundation.
...
The misleading posts misrepresent the implications of the study for the safety of Covid-19 vaccines.

The Salk Institute's study concluded that Covid-19 vaccines are an effective and safe way to protect people from the virus.

The study’s last sentence says that when someone receives a Covid-19 vaccine, it “not only protects the host from SARS-CoV-2 but also inhibits [spike protein] imposed endothelial injury”.
...
"The spike protein in the coronavirus behaves differently from the spike protein in vaccines”, the spokesperson said.

My aunt, who has a high school diploma, became a raw vegan, and vaccine denier, decades ago. She died of Covid last year.
She was intelligent, but with a very contrarian, anti-establishment sort of personality. She felt the government was hiding things from her, the medical establishment was under the control of Big Pharma, etc. She lacked the critical thinking and scientific approach necessary to distinguish false experts from legitimate ones. Despite our efforts at providing information, she did not deviate from her beliefs, and died for them.

I think some human brains are just wired to find satisfaction in countering the established knowledge and power centers. They're people who feel stifled by the mundanity of their daily lives, and feel compelled to seek more exciting/grandiose explanations that place them in more central roles. Some may be twice exceptional (high IQ with ADHD/ASD/learning disabilities) who are underemployed and lack constructive outlets for their splinter skills.

It becomes Main Character Syndrome, in a way. The "I know better, you guys are just sheep" way of life. It boils down to a certain type of neurodivergence.

All very true. And I would add comes from a developed country that doesn’t see the impact of certain diseases.

Pro-vaxxer here but the Covid one really ruined my trust with the medical industry. The way they were pushing that 2 years ago was waaaaayyy over the top, like giving free burgers and donuts to making people show vaccine cards within the span of 4 months was weird. Once it became clear it was all a money grab from pfizer and Moderna and not about saving people, my trust went down.

I still am pro-vaccine. But I won’t go near another covid vaccine probably ever again. Especially since I got Covid 3 times since I got fully vaccinated.

At this point, I trust no one.

NP. Haven’t read the rest of the thread. Depends on what you call an antivaxxer. I am not a conspiracy theorist and I live in a blue state. I am fully vaccinated myself, including the most recent booster. However, I am opposed to Covid vaccine mandates for healthy kids and teens. Why? Because shortly after my teen son got the Covid vaccine, he was rushed into an emergency pediatric cardiologist visit because of suspected myocarditis. It was terrifying. He is okay now, but two highly respected pediatric cardiologists, an ER doctor, and his primary care doctor all say he should not get another vaccine. But despite that clear medical record, some places with mandates will not give him an exception, which is infuriating.

So if you consider someone opposed to mandates as an antivaxxer, then yes, I’m an antivaxxer.

Cool. Just don't force me to take it when its brand new and clinical trials aren't finished yet. I hope they work out very well.

Nobody was forced to get an "experimental" vaccine.

Forced as in, they would’ve lost their financial security by having their job taken away if they didn’t take it.

Yeah totally not forced at all.

You pretend like that didn’t happen. That should’ve never happen. I’m fully vaccinated voluntarily, but that was a step too far. Asking people to give up their livelihood if they weren’t comfortable with taking a new product.

Nobody has a right to a specific job and employers have to provide safe workplaces.

And what about people who work with vulnerable people - nurses, firefighters etc.

The problem is, that vaccine didn’t prevent or stop transmission. So that argument is useless and void.

I’m 100% in agreement with you. Not anti-vax at all, but I’m anti-mandates. There was no reason for it whatsoever.

I think we also learned how much teachers are parenting kids as well as teaching them.

They worked great at preventing transmission of the alpha variant. You understand that, right? The virus mutated. The vaccine was always designed to reduce hospitalization and death.

Are spike proteins the new ooooh!boogeyman, now that someone made a Facebook disinformation post about it?

Great. Now the crazy pants people can focus on this over and over and over. I guess that was the real point of this thread.

Oooh! Spikey! Gotta post some more! I'm so disgusted and upset!

And what is the point of point of posting rants about this, over and over? Wasn't it the claim that nobody is getting vaccinated anymore anyway, and everyone is skeptical?

So what's the compulsion to post? It's just a fixation that they can't get past, and they can't post logically. Like whack-a-mole, every time something gets refuted, on to the next weird rant.
