Won't the AA ruling be particularly bad for private school URMs?

As usual, indigenous black people in this country break their backs, do the work, make it possible for others to make a way in this country and get s**t on. All of these groups including Asians have benefitted from our hard fought for gains.

We are the only group that fights for EVERYONE’s rights. All other groups only concern themselves with theirs. When will we learn.

Yes because we are considered the lowest of the low, so one you extend rights to us, how can you deny them to those higher in the racial hierarchy? And I wouldn’t want to deny them anything.

But let’s me honest, one of the greatest “utilities” of slave-descendent black folks has been to give other groups something to distinguish themselves from as a means of achieving whiteness or proximity to whiteness. This applies to almost every racial group outside of western and Nordic Europeans (including immigrant blacks). This is just a fact.

I’m opposed to affirmative BTW and most other DEI measures. It’s all pointless…

It seems pointless because you haven’t had to live in a world without it yet. You presume you’re on equal footing in America. No amount of money or education alone in this country will ever put you on equal footing in this country. You or your children will learn that lesson.

Racism in America is insidious at every level.

You should leave. Lots of folks are going back to places in Africa for a host of reasons.

The decendents of slaves or have nowhere to go back to. This is their homeland and they built this country from the ground up.

They can just write about the opportunity to go to a private school that their family was lucky to get a scholarship, and the admissions office will get the code.

Lol no. The black students at my kid’s school are all rich af. I guess it’s good that my white FA kid is not growing up with the stereotype that black = poor!

Why would you think that rich black parents aren’t choosing privates, like their rich white counterparts? Or do you just think that rich black parents don’t exist? I assure you that I am behind their BMWs and Mercedes and Teslas all the time.

+1. Yes, whoever wrote that post doesn’t know any wealthy Black people. Most of the Jack & Jill members in my chapter send their children to private school (especially for high school). Many of them (the parents) graduated from private high schools as well. They are not taking any chances with DCPS or public charters.

“Our Kind of People”

Didn’t know Jack and Jill was still around. Too many sellouts in that group

Sorry to hear that your family wasn’t admitted to Jack and Jill. Try Mocha Mom’s—they take anyone.

Oh nah we had no desire to be admitted to Jack and Jill, we don’t do the buckdancing in my family and just don’t want to be around the type of bootlicks that belong.

Growing up I had friends with families that belonged to that group and I have been to some of the functions. There are good people that belong to the organization, but the Boulé atmosphere isn’t for me.

J&J was founded in 1938. It has been around for 85 years, and it will be here 85 years from now. Whether y’all like it or not—lol.

I can believe that. Just as the Black man on the Supreme Court isn’t going anywhere, they’re there for a reason.

The assertion that Black Americans could just "go back to Africa" if we don't enjoy systemic racism is quite possibly the most racist and asinine thing I've heard in quite some time. Africa is a giant continent and saying this worse even more ridiculous than telling a White person to "go back to Europe".

I am descendants of slaves AND founders of this country. And yes, I am angry and sick and tired of the racism and the fact that we are still fighting to prove we deserve an equitable shot (equity isn't the same as equality) at the American dream. Going "back to Africa" is ridiculous because I am not FROM Africa. If an African Immigrant doesn't like it here, perhaps telling them to go home would be appropriate. But THIS is my home. THIS is the country of my citizenship and roots. So cut that racists crap out and pick up a damn book.

I think private colleges will find a way to admit full pay private school students. They will look for racial discrimination/ hardship essays from favorable zip codes and especially from private schools.

I think this ruling is bad for mediocre URMs from privileged backgrounds who benefited the most from AA policies. A URM from a wealthy/privileged household that can pay 100% tuition/board is absolute gold as it contributes to diversity metrics without draining the endowment through financial aid. Doesn't matter if Joe/Jane URM is 40% decile in academics as revealed the in the Harvard lawsuit. The problem is that there's not enough of these people around.

What’s funny to me is that all of these entitled white families assume that the SCOTUS decision is going to mean that their children get admitted to top schools instead of some black or Hispanic kid.

But what’s really going to happen — at least at the top schools — is a modest decline in black and Hispanic admits (because colleges will find proxies for race) and a huge spike in Asian admits. Once again white people always assume that they get there on merit while people of color don’t. Many Asian applicants outshine white applicants, and their numbers are going to rise. Again, this will be most pronounced at the top schools.

You wish. This country was built and made wealthy on the whip-torn backs of my ancestors. Despite centuries of subjugation, hatred and systemic racism we are still here, fighting to climb out of the massive pit we were left in. And we will keep fighting, despite the Supreme Court delivering a devastating blow to our progress.

Yes yes yes! All of America’s advancements, inventions, ideas, buildings, and accomplishments are mainly and directly attributed to you and your ancestors. Fight fight fight!

America was able to become the country it is in no small part due to the 246 years of free labor provided by slaves. Or maybe you’re just completely ignorant to the facts of American history?

R u still fixated on the global African slave trade and former plantation state setups as 100% of US history and accomplishments?

No one said free labor represents 100 percent of US history and accomplishments. Your comments are asinine. Learn to read. Then at least you can be a literate racist.

Actually the supreme court decision explicitly specifies that it is unconstitutional to "find proxies for race." I mean, the universities can do that, but if it can be shown that the proxies result in preferences for one race over another, then it's very easy to sue for damages because that is now unconstitutional.

Asians are only 6% of the population with 54% ish college graduates rate. This translates to about 6% of the total number of college students. Whites college students were 42% and Hispanic 17.5%. I know you think every Asian has the highest stats but that is not true. It is a racist stereotype.

There are more white(15/1) and Hispanic(3/1) students with top stats vs Asian. Top schools like Harvard are selecting students from a pool with identical in terms of sat, act, gpa, etc.

The data about Asians applies to only Harvard. Which has a class size of 1,600.

Good! Everything isn’t for everybody, and Jack and Jill clearly isn’t for you.

I’m so happy that my chapter has limited the number of Jack and Jill events that non-members can attend. I prefer not to socialize with Black people like you, who envy the success of other Black people. Crabs in a barrel.

NP here. I love the contradiction that unfolds in a matter of words. Jack and Jill isn't for everyone, but I'm going to judge you because you don't like it.
