What are you smoking? Pit Bulls are the number 1 dogs that are put down. I believe it is about 1 million. You will never fully eliminate any pit because of the mixes. Even if they have 10 percent pit you people are so bloodthirsty that you will kill them too. Again, statistically speaking the chance of you being killed by a pit bull is very small. You cannot say the same thing for humans. |
Remember folks: being delulu is the solulu. |
If all pits and pit mixes were spayed or neutered to be eliminated by attrition, there will be less Pitbulls to be put down. I think that is the best and most humane solution. |
I agree with the spaying and neutering and as a responsible owner I have done so but, you never answered what % of pit would be "acceptable" to you. Since the macho guys who abuse animals also breed them I do not see your solution actually working. |
How about any percentage over 25% and/or has that rictus grin mouth and the butt crack head. |
Just fyi you are a terrible human. Imagine judging a dog with 25% pit and 75% Lab as a dog not worthy of living. But you are not the boss of anyone so we can ignore your wishes |
Neutering isn't the same thing as deeming them not worthy of living |
Just come off it, oh my god. |
Former prosecutor here, have prosecuted a number of dangerous dog cases and attended animal abuse conferences and am well educated on the dangers of bully breeds and other breeds that comprise the majority of lethal attacks on humans and other animals. I am personally strongly anti-pit bull. It happens when you’ve actually seen the autopsy photos of children ripped apart by a pit bull attack. I honestly don’t even ‘get’ the attraction of these dogs, especially the XL models which look exactly like what they are capable of being - killing machines. All that said, I have mixed feelings about how we eradicate the breed. A few months before the pandemic, having lost my last dog to illness and old age, I adopted a dog from an out of state rescue after searching for border collies and border collie mixes. My dog is a mix, but looks very much like a border collie in terms of size/shape of head/eye color/coat color (border collies come in many colors/patterns, hers fits one of the known variations). She’s the best dog I’ve ever had, and I’ve had some fantastic dogs. Her behavior aligns closely with border collie behavior. She is velcro, sensitive and super intelligent. She’s also fierce - she once ran off a coyote that entered our yard and approached us at our fire pit - there was a tussle, no blood drawn by either canid but the coyotes have never come into the yard since. I’m nuts about this dog. A year or so after she came to live with me, Embark DNA kits went on sale and I had hers done. She is 27.5% border collie - and 30.9% American Pit Bull Terrier. The rest is a mix of Rottweiler, Labrador, German Shepherd Dog and Treeing Walker Coonhound. She doesn’t have any of the typical physical characteristics of a pit bull, but you can’t deny that’s the majority of her genes. It makes me sick to think of her being euthanized for that, because she’s a fantastic dog - incredibly well behaved, almost never barks, super gentle mouth, very obedient. Everyone who meets her loves her, including people who tell me they’re lukewarm about dogs. What’s the answer, then? |
I should add, that I considered having her DNA done before she was transported to me - she was a few months coming to me from Arkansas because she was heartworm positive and had to have treatment before they would send her. If I’d known she was 30.9% pit bull then, I likely would have asked for my adoption fee to be transferred to another dog. I live with a kid and I would have feared the pit bull in her. That kid adores the dog, and the dog has never shown any signs of aggression toward any of us - and I’m a person who has studied canine behavior and knows what to look for. I’m so glad I didn’t get the test done ahead of time. |
| Pitbulls, aka XL American Bullies, are banned in the UK. It is illegal to own one. How does the UK address PP's DNA dilemma? |
The answer is not to judge a dog based on the dna. Stop blaming the "pit" part if a dog misbehaves. My dog has border collie and likes to herd my kids. But because it is a border collie no one would suggest to euthanize it just because it is a border collie. If anything we need to enforce the education and protect all dogs from bad owners. We all need to say something if we see dogs are being mistreated. There are so many good pit bulls out there. |

Pit bull is not the majority of her genes it is 30.9%... I don't think anyone is advocating euthanizing any dog unless they have attacked someone. I think there should be a ban on breeding and all obvious pit bulls should be neutered. It is likely that if you got your dog from a rescue that they are already neutered. |
She was spayed by the rescue after her three puppies were weaned and adopted out. She had three sons, and I believe they were all neutered prior to adoption per rescue policy. After doing some research I learned that there is actually a trend in backyard breeding, at least in the south, for dogs called border bulls - border collie pit bull mix. Highest intelligence breed crossed with fiercest fighting breed. |
