Wow. I knew it was invasive, but not this invasive. Is anyone in congress (either party) interested in fixing these abuses??

Is anyone paying attention while our civil liberties are being dismantled?

Lots of liberals have been talking about it since W really accelerated it. We have been called a host of names.

oh yes, I recall Rs (myself included back in the 90s/early 2000s) saying to liberals that you have nothing to be afraid of if you are not a criminal regarding the Patriot Act.

You won't find any conservative news outlets back then complaining about the erosion of civil liberties.

Yes, I left the R party a while ago, and I don't mind having cctv. I think it keeps us safe. It could've been used to get the woman in the video who was seen trying to plant something near the Capitol during 1/6.

Cops use security cameras all the time to find criminals. I don't see using ring cameras or cctv to be all that different, just more of them. Shrug.. don't break laws, you have nothing to worry about.

I also think it's fantastic that it was the security video at MAL that caused the FBI to get the warrant.

Again, wrt the 1/6 bomber there is CCTV footage from US Capitol Police cameras on South Capitol Street, DNC cameras, RNC cameras and residential Ring cameras. We can assume there is additional footage from Library of Congress and other US Capitol Police cameras based on the detailed tracking information released by the FBI. There are cameras monitoring every thoroughfare and intersection around the Capitol. I’m not sure more surveillance is what is needed.

again, there was clearly not enough of them around if they can't identify her. She masked up before she got to the areas around the Capitol. If there had been cameras everywhere outside the Capitol, it would've been more difficult for her to mask up and get to the Capitol. Ring cameras are not *everywhere*, and there are a lot of blindspots.

You would be a terrible being in charge of security.

So the answer is a camera every 10 feet? Have you ever lived in an urban environment. There were at least 3 cameras in that part of the alley alone, snd multiple cameras on the RNC. Have you ever lived in a city?

I think it's obvious that the USSS didn't bother to do a door to door to obtain camera footage. What little video we've seen has come through the FBI. There should be a whole lot more based on the location in DC. As I always say, a million-dollar reward would shake even the coconspirators loose. I wish the 1-6-21 Committee would demand an update on this investigation. Why did MTG ask for a pardon three days after she was sworn into office?

I’m not sure why anyone assumes that they don’t know who the 1/6 bomber is, nor why they assume that the footage we’ve all seen is all the footage they have of the stumpy person who set the bombs. I believe it’s another case of justice moving forward creakily.

You are probably right but leaving a bomber loose is endangering us all. I suppose they are hoping to nail her ultimate coconspirator. She was visiting the White House a lot in the few days before she was sworn in. It’s also pretty easy to see she’s kind of short in relation to alley fences and trash cans. I bet she was dumb enough to carry her cell phone. The person I’m thinking of always has one in her hand. Constantly Tweeting stupid things.

It’s not endangering us any more than the rest of the right wing extremism is. They can’t arrest them all simultaneously.

And lol to the other PP who replied to me and literally believes “what we’ve been shown” is the same as “what the feds have.” Honestly, get a clue.

Yes, if there is cctv *everywhere* it would be a lot easier to catch criminals.

If there are so many cameras in the city, how did this terrorist manage to avoid the camera without her mask?

Cameras really do not do much good. London bombing had 6,000 hours of cctv. It was of little help. DC does not have the same number of cameras. You just do not get that good of a picture of the subject and you can only track forward/back till there is a gap in the coverage.

Funny you should mention the London bombing.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-11534951

The four suspects were isolated on railway station footage within four days of the attacks.

Day three of the inquests saw previously unreleased CCTV of the men buying DIY supplies for the bombs.

Contrast to 1/6, over 18 months, and we still have zero clue.

I was actually in London at the time. The cameras were of little use. They were able to track some of the suspects back to train stations but they Lost track of them after that. They identified the bodies and piece together their movements. They were looking for people who helped them or were part of the group. CCTV did not help. The Uk anti terrorist system was built to stop external threats not internal. The same problem we have here.

Ok, but they were able to identify them, including them buying DIY supplies to make the bombs.

whereas we cannot even identify the 1/6 terrorist.

Their bodies were identified. They were suicide bombers. Once their bodies were ID they put together their movements. By the evening of the attack they had video of the men tracing them back to a point where they got on a train. These was released to the public. The cameras did not identify them. I think you are over valuing the use of cameras. It’s not like on tv with facial recognition.

No one’s going to bring up the fact that the USSS sat on a threat against Nancy Pelosi?

How low the GOP has brought us. The USSS knew of a threat against the third in line to the presidency and it barely makes a ripple.

They knew of a threat to the second in line and just turned their back on him and his detail. Wonder how unit cohesion is doing over at the USSS? The higher ups knew pence was going to be a target and they did nothing to help those agents in his detail. The USSS knew the threat, knew what was going to happen and sent pence’s detail in to die for the coup and trump. How could any member of the USSS trust anyone else in the organization?

Pence was first in line. Pelosi was second in line. And Grassley, who was third in line, gave away the game when he made a statement to the effect that he, and not Pence, would be presiding over the Senate on 1/6.
