Yea, seems like a good way to refocus our efforts on the root cause of mental health crisis.

Great idea!!!

? "Mental health crisis" is a Republican talking point. See also: "Criminals."

The crisis is widespread retail access to assault weapons.

To that point, there's some sweet deals here if you're in the market:

https://www.sportsmansoutdoorsuperstore.com/category.cfm/sportsman/ar-15-rifles

But, yes, the new term (replacing soggy old, failed "gun control") is Massacre Reduction.

“massacre reduction” is a democrat talking point. See also “common sense gun safety laws”

At least have the honesty to call it what you actually want: “gun bans and gun confiscation”

Just be honest about it. Let people decide on the real goal, rather than hiding it in deliberately non-specific euphemisms.

Idiot,

Massacre Reduction is not a Democratic talking point, but it should be. See

I’m noticing a prevailing trend here: gun grabbers and hoplophobes like you always seem to begin their retort with an insult.

Why is that? Why are you incapable of discussion without insulting others? What do you attribute that to? A lack of self control?

Here's another prevailing trend: Mass shooters killing people. Didja hear the latest? 19 children were slaughtered last week, most of them by having their face blown off.

Lady with a handgun stops mass shooter with an AR15 just last week.

I’d prefer we have sensible gun laws so that a man with an obvious anger problem and an “extensive criminal history” not have access to an AR-15 so that graduation parties don’t become shootouts.

I’m sure that will work. This isn’t about money. The disagreements are about the laws, not how many of what type of gun you own.

Of course it is about money.

Non-sequitur.

Can you please try to answer the question?

Why does anyone need an AR 15? Why do these bloody slaughters happen mostly in the USA again and again and again and again and again and again and again and again?

I bet California will put a sizable tax on guns and ammo, directing such tax funds be used for school safety and mental health/red flag laws. Create a stamp tax and don't allow untaxed ammo or firearms to be brought into the state without the state stamp.

You could create a very similar regulatory framework to cigarettes.

Financial nudges work better than outright bans.

DP. I think a lot of people are angry and frustrated that nothing has been done for the last decade. There are plenty of other posts that talk about the real issue - loose gun control in the US - maybe you should focus on those.

It seems the Pro-Massacre Community has taken umbrage and other people's outrage about kids getting their face blown off... or people being slaughtered as they shop for groceries... or [insert descriptors of the next mass shooting, carried out by a loner misfit freak armed with a newly (and legally!) purchased assault weapon] or [the one(s) after that.]

We desperately need mental health checks before people can buy guns. I just found out that my dad bought a gun a year after being diagnosed with dementia. I knew my parents had two guns in a locked safe but I assumed my mom bought them. Nope. My dad just left the house randomly and came back with a gun. My mom had to confiscate it and hide it from him. My dad now believes the neighbor is trying to kill him. Imagine if he still had access to that gun.

Mental health checks on everyone in a household with guns. The Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza was batshit insane but his mother was the one who owned the guns.

Exactly. We should be able to enjoy going to a party and not having to worry about strapping a hogleg on to do so. Tighten up the gun laws so that it isn't as easy for criminals to get them.

It's taking away our freedom to go about our daily lives if we have to constantly think about arming ourselves.

Existing gun laws don’t work when mental health people refuse to report threats of carnage. If we implement consequences for them, we could fix things overnight.

This point seems to get missed far too much. We are more willing to regulate personal freedoms that only affect individuals and families on the basis of others' morality (e.g. whether I have certain medical procedures, whether my neighbor marries his boyfriend...) than we are to regulate personal freedoms that are potentially harmful. Even if your gun never shoots me, forcing me to go into public spaces with open carry has a measurable impact on my levels of physical stress.
