This man was Latino.

Latino is not a race. Hispanic is actually considered "white".

Backbends to try to make this person a white redneck Come ON. Does this type of statement console the families? No.

He is Latino. Full stop.

And just like other recent insane murderers, FaceBook was happy to host his weirdness, where he signaled his intent.

Why does Facebook always get a pass?

Exactly. And he texted a random woman on Insta to warn her but not with enough detail. I don't think, though, banning those types of photos on social is a good idea as it provides a rich source of information for the authorities. Social media should tip of police so they can act. Part of the problem is social media is too busy tracking people who don't share their viewpoints and these true nuts get lost.

Correct.

We could put metal detectors at schools. To stop shooters from entering schools.

Or, we can call Republicans mean names and talk about a fantasy world without guns. Your choice.

Or we can ban guns and make a “fantasy” come to life.

Could? Or should?

If we can, when is that happening? What's the timeliness or expected effective date?

Not even Japan “bans guns.”

Get your facts straight.

What is there to say? I just shake my head and move on.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

What is happening to young people today?

Indeed.

Those poor kids. They should be getting excited about the upcoming 3day weekend and summer. They should be playing in pools this summer, being carefree. Poor babies.

I’m glad this forum is anonymous and I’m going there. If any of the parents were ‘“but much guns” type people, then I have no sympathy for them right now. I have no sympathy for Abbott or any of the TX politicians who are all about guns and freedom. They get to deal with this mess. I hope they see the gruesome crime scene pictures.

We support a nearly total ban on firearms, even if it means no guns for us.

+1000. Here, here. I'm the ex-military PP. I'm with you 1000%.

If we ban firearms, how do we ensure the bad guys turn theirs in?

Buy them back. Seriously. That's how you do it. Give them money.

But we do have gun laws, and criminals and mentally ill people break them. Keeping guns out of the hands of law abiding, sane citizens will not fix the problem. Crack down on real criminals would be one way to get started. But instead, we're doing the complete opposite.

Good guys with guns are not stopping the bad guys with guns. The gun culture in this country is the problem and the lax regulations are a symptom. It all needs to change.

In this case, the good guys with guns killed the gunman. Why there was not one resource officer at the actual school is a whole other issue. How did he get in?

Do most elementary schools have resource officers? Ours doesn’t.

Guns. Guns littered around this country are what’s “happening” to them. Our country’s mental health isn’t an outlier vs. other higher income countries, so yeah, hm. Stumped!

You can require a license to buy ammo or the components to pack your own. Also there are ways to identify and track purchases of bullets after they have been fired.

We gave them guns and ignored their mental health.

Stop thinking about" bad guys".

You set up a buyback program, and make guns illegal to possess and sell. You trace weapons from the seller to the owner. Some guns won't be recovered, and some will be picked up at traffic stop and house searches, in which case the people they are found with will get a hefty fine and prison time. But you reserve the worse of the fines and prison time for gun sellers and manufacturers. Every single gun found on an unauthorized person means a fine for the manufacturer, and the seller if we can trace the sale. This will push them to tighten controls drastically on authorized sales (to law enforcement and perhaps a few licensed, trained, psychologically-assessed, and background-checked private owners) or push them to bankruptcy, either is desirable. That's what we haven't yet done, and we need to start doing. Individuals can print a 3D gun, but most guns in the US are made by traditional manufacturers. They need to be held responsible, just like cigarette companies were held responsible for lung cancer and unethical marketing and lobbying.

Most gun deaths do not happen in shoot-outs with "bad guys". They happen inside homes when people kill others accidentally. They happen when people commit suicide. There are just too many guns!

The "bad guy" narrative is a false construct created by the NRA and gun lobbyists.

But with that gun ban, you will ALSO prevent mass shootings.
