Another gunman, another elementary school

The same crowd that thinks the universe created itself also thinks triggers pull themselves.

When are you leaving?

Because Europe is the safest place to be right now…

I am not moving to Ukraine.
How many school shootings have you heard of over there lately?

This man was Latino.

Latino is not a race. Hispanic is actually considered "white".

Backbends to try to make this person a white redneck Come ON. Does this type of statement console the families? No.

This. A lot of white supremacists actually consider Latinos white. Keep in mind that Argentina harbored my nazis after WWII.

We support a nearly total ban on firearms, even if it means no guns for us.

+1000. Here, here. I'm the ex-military PP. I'm with you 1000%.

If we ban firearms, how do we ensure the bad guys turn theirs in?

You can require a license to buy ammo or the components to pack your own. Also there are ways to identify and track purchases of bullets after they have been fired.

Here we go again with a C word - "can." I think you meant "ought to." Because it's not happening. The sooner people get realistic and pragmatic, the sooner school boards across America can start making plans, and following them through with completed action, to keep kids safe. Like: Plan - metal detectors. Budget, find contractor, install. That simple. Rather than whining and wishing and nothing getting accomplished and kids dying.

But we do have gun laws, and criminals and mentally ill people break them. Keeping guns out of the hands of law abiding, sane citizens will not fix the problem. Crack down on real criminals would be one way to get started. But instead, we're doing the complete opposite.

Good guys with guns are not stopping the bad guys with guns. The gun culture in this country is the problem and the lax regulations are a symptom. It all needs to change.

In this case, the good guys with guns killed the gunman. Why there was not one resource officer at the actual school is a whole other issue. How did he get in?

Do most elementary schools have resource officers? Ours doesn’t.

WTF? You think a resource officers is going to stop this? Most of these shooters are more heavily armed vs the swat teams. In this case the “good guys” killed the gunman after he killed 14 kids…most likely it was a suicide. The only way to stop gun violence is to remove the guns.

Yes, we have the most heavily armed civilian population in the world.

In the entire world.

Gun control won't work. And now that people right here in the DMV are making ghost guns on 3d printers, that debate is over. There have to be other ways to address violence.

And it's not mental health. Most people with mental health issues are nonviolent. Most people with mental health issues are victims of violence, not perpetrators.

This is ugly and there is no easy answer. This is the new normal.

What is happening to young people today?

We gave them guns and ignored their mental health.

"NBC News: Senator Murphy spoke to reporters as he walked off the Senate floor, saying, "spare me the bullshit about mental illness. We don't have any more mental illness than any other country in the world.""

Pro-lifers, would you agree with that?

Yes and I voted Dem last time for the environment and gun control. Still pro life. Gun lobbies are a pox on this nation.

Our country is mentally and morally sick. Social isolation, individualism/entitlement, hateful ideologies, glorification of violence, Internet, easy access to gun.

We don’t even have metal detectors at most courthouses in America. We can’t afford to staff them - it’s not just having a detector it’s having numerous officers to staff them. And we have many many more schools than courthouses - schools that have been struggling to teach our kids on ever shrinking budgets for years. Where is the money coming from for metal detectors at all our schools and the multiple staff to man them?
