How far away do you need to be from DC to be safe from a nuclear attack?

The old AEC building in Germantown (currently DOEnergy) was built just outside of blast zone (30 miles from downtown DC) of similar sized weapon. Modern nuclear weapons are thousands of times more powerful than the Little Boy and the Fat Man used in WWII. So, yeah, you will have no chance surviving. But you can try.

+1. I don't you think people understand the magnitude of modern day nuclear weapons.

No chance in an all out attack. That is not the only scenario.

?? I neither said nor implied either.

Global Thermonuclear War. "A curious game. The only winning move is not to play."

+1.

Nice. Might have to rewatch again with the kids this weekend.

Watch Jericho -- someone said on Netflix. Read Alas, Babylon.

Jericho was taken off of Netflix. You can find it on Amazon. Great show.

But seriously, where would be safe? Just hypothetically? Spearman Texas? Every time someone says a place, people counter by saying, no, that’s actually a strategic area that would be nuked. So where would be safest?

New Jersey?

Spearman will get the fallout from bombs falling to the west of there. Perhaps the Florida Keys although Cuba may land forces there as they do their surprise attack. Maybe Maine as it's so off the beaten path. But not sure they take kindly to strangers so you have an internal threat.

Anyone else stressed enough in life that the thought of being vaporized by a nuclear missile is almost comforting?

no, just me?

I'm not depressed but between my job, husband, 3 teenagers and high school drama/academics/spring sports tryouts, etc I'm kind of ok with vaporization.

okay, so look at the map of US and identify where there's nothing anyone would consider important - no big cities, no military bases, no utility grids... areas where you have land and land only. that's where you need to go. you can also buy a nuclear silo. they are not that expensive

I admit I’ve had this thought. The past few years have made me so numb to everything, I feel almost zero stress at the idea of nuclear annihilation. Not depressed, either, at least not consciously.

I don’t think you really understand what being *dead* means. This isn’t a video game. You don’t get to re-spawn and start playing again.

Every other problem you have in your life is pretty damn trivial compared to being DEAD. You don’t seem to get that.

If only he had adopted his predecessor’s strategy with Putin: bending over and coquettishly spreading his ass cheeks.

Better that then the idiot we have now.

Oh, sweetie.

Oh sweetie. If you think Biden is going to be helpful during this…just HAHAHA
