The "is she attractive?" discussion is indeed superficial, but interesting to me. I think that Huma is very beautiful!
I am a first-gen Greek-American, and in my experience I don't find agree when my non-Greek friends find certain Greek women (and men) attractive. I just don't see it.
I wonder if there is a more general phenomenon, of divergence in the attractiveness judgments of in-group and out-group members?

As a Pakistani American, I can tell you in our community she would not be considered especially attractive. She is too tall, too skinny and her face is too narrow.

We think this is beautiful:

I don't think the politician, Hina Rabbani Khar, on the top is considered beautiful. She would be considered presentable in Lahori society. Mahira, on the bottom on the other hand is gorgeous in real life. I know her and even without makeup she is amazing.

I think Maya Ali, the actress is considered universally pretty:

I’ve dated several Pakistani men, and I finally get my appeal. I’m very similar around the forehead and eyes. Meanwhile, other men have said I’m a “threehead” and that my brows are too low.

Oops, didn’t mean to make two comments about the same thing. I got an error message after the first and thought it didn’t post.
No complaints from me and my little forehead. Pakistani men are hot.

American Muslim here. I have not read Huma’s book. But understand where she comes from. Huma was explicitly not allowed to marry Anthony Weiner unless he converted and thus was and remains in an illegitimate relationship in the eyes of her family and the community she comes from. She did cross that threshold which takes a lot. You can roll your eyes at this, but I’m just explaining the background and nuance on how she gave up a lot including how her community views her son to be with Anthony Weiner and that is why she stuck to him for much longer than she should have.

She was also clearly enamored by the public political life of the Clintons and wanted that very badly for herself, literally giving up the tenants she was raised by to be with Weiner. She also didn’t have many choices in a romantic partner. Islamophobia is real and there are not many Muslim politicians period let alone congressmen in that period and there were almost no Muslims besides Huma that worked behind the scenes at that time.

It's true she would not have many options in the desi community (especially not now!) but there are many options outside of the community. Her chances for the second non-desi husband are not affected by the Wiener debacle.

I think she could marry a desi this time because her boss is not traveling all the time anymore. But she is power hungry more than anything so I doubt she will find someone that easily.

She is many things but down to earth she is not. She wants a glamourous life married to a well connected and powerful man. Her best bet is to marry someone white and in the Democratic circle.

Except that train has left the station. Hillary Clinton will never be President. The center of power has shifted to the Obamas and Biden’s.

Why can't she marry someone in the Obama and Biden circles? She is still invited to many fancy galas and parties.

Because no one wants to be married to an ex-wife of a Congressman who went down in a sex scandal OR the top aide to Hillary Clinton who caused the biggest campaign loss in history. Even Clinton's former campaign manager has not had her on his campaign trail and that's for good reason - she's like kryptonite for a successful career and Huma's worse with half the American population hating her even before the FBI scandal which got her on the bad side of many high-level Democrats as well.

The funny thing is she and Weiner's weirdness cost a lot of people jobs and I mean A LOT. There were entire articles written about how none of the Clinton campaign and transition teams had prepared for anything other than her winning the election. They were all expecting to get political roles in the Clinton administration as well as appointments that were due post-Obama.

Everyone from the person who was expected to replace RGB as a Supreme Court Justice to Anthony Blinken who was supposed to be Clinton's Secretary of State in 2017 to Neera Tanden who was supposed to come on with the Clinton administration and then couldn't get the Biden Cabinet approval to Psaki who spent 4 years doing random soundbites on CNN until Biden came back into play. Also people like Cheryl Mills and Marc Elias who were gearing up for much bigger roles and had spent decades loyal to the Clintons.

I'm not saying Huma can't get invited to any dinner she wants but would they do her a favor or marry her without HRC twisting arms? No.

Let’s not feel bad for Neera Tanden. She’s weird.

+1 to all of the above. I mean, most of these people did well for themselves in the meantime but I can totally imagine that Huma is about as welcome in Democratic circles as Ralph Nader is.

I'll spend my energy feeling bad for the people who would have had a job in the Sanders administration had he not been ratfckd in the '16 primary since there's no way he would have fallen on his face eaten sht like the Hillary campaign did.

I know It’s a metaphor in this case, but she did literally fall on her face.

Omg. Huma is only 45 years old. She literally looks 55 in all her interviews this week.

Would Anthony Weiner have cheated no Huma if she had more sex with him?
Anonymous
The NPR article mention Weiner gave up eating pork and drinking alcohol and the NYT article mentions that in the book she burst into tears before her Islamic marriage. Can someone who has the book check that?

I’m asking because there is absolutely no way she could have an Islamic marriage without the bridegroom being Muslim as well. The rules are extremely clear on this.

If this is true this would make sense why she stuck with Weiner as he may have also sacrificed a lot for her.

It’s not just about sex with him. It’s tantalizing and risqué plus lascivious acts. She doesn’t strike me as the type or has the body to pull off the pictures he was receiving by sext

Also they didn’t seem to be living in the same state half the time.
