I don't think it's because she's attractive.

I think being married to Anthony Weiner is a big part of it, and basically being Gal Friday to Hillary for so many years (bill Clinton officiated her wedding ceremony. They were just very close and I think people assume she knows where the bodies are buried).

She's the living embodiment of the collateral damage from being close to power.

+1 I find her glamorous and fascinating but also a cautionary tale. She was Hillary's heir apparent. She was featured in Vogue. Her wedding dress made her look like a princess. She was set up with her husband by the president, and at the time, Weiner was being compared to Kennedy. They were the most promising political couple in America. And their romance was so American-- he a new york jew, she a Muslim midwestern girl, both making the world their oyster.

Fast forward and it's all a nightmare for her. I still get chills thinking about her standing next to him at the press conference for his first sex issue. She was being both the good wife and the good employee by keeping all her pain inside and making herself small.

What about the second time when they had a documentary crew following them for his 2017 run for mayor of NYC and she found out on live TV that he had another sex scandal? That was just...wow.

You couldn't write moments like that. Unbelievable.

She is very gorgeous to me. Maybe people that only find blue eyed blonde women the epitome of beauty would disagree.

I think she's attractive but not gorgeous. Very few people are gorgeous. And that's my opinion as someone of MENA descent.

Pat of her beauty is her grace and fashion choices.

I still half-jokingly believe the “Hillary Clinton lover” theory. Otherwise her choice to marry Weiner doesn’t make sense. No way she didn’t know he was a creep. But they had an arrangement, just like Bill & Hillary.

I also thought it was super skeevy the way she worked out a deal to keep her private industry salary while working for the government. No one does that. You give up the $$$$ and then go back to it when you’re done with service. It took some chutzpah for her to negotiate that. And it seems like it was mostly so she could afford a life of luxury in designer clothes, shoes, salon, etc. Just really a lot not to like there.

Some of the other women mentioned on this thread, my heart breaks for. Elizabeth Edward’s probably the most. She was clearly totally blind sided, and after everything she went through with her son, and then the cancer. He was such a huckster. I wonder whether his older daughter has ever really forgiven him for breaking her mother’s heart that way.

Same on all these fronts!

And if she'd just ditched Anthony W earlier, there wouldnt have been the laptop/FBI/emails/Comey issue in 2016 just before the election. Changed the course of history.

Her boss had the chance to fire her well before that. HRC was well aware of the undercurrent of resentment from voters about her righthand woman. Aides had been sacrificed for far less than what Abedin’s husband did.

I felt so sorry for Elizabeth Edward. Talk about a complete and utter loser she married.

Romance? LOL. You mean fake and calculated as hell, curated for by a panel of NPR hosts.

Outside of being skinny, she's not attractive in the slightest -- she's clearly a conniving ruthless striver. And an obvious status obsessed shyster. There is nothing to like about this woman. She's as creepy as her husband.

Why is she so valuable to Clinton?

Which Clinton? IIRC, she and Hillary Clinton are very close friends. So, maybe not valuable so much as "close to." Which can be valuable in its own way.

+1 shared struggles and pain with both being married to serial cheaters and emotional abusers of women

Huma is basically unemployable. Hills is her meal ticket. Ride that train til its over, prob also hoping she's left something in the estate. Perhaps a freeloading Clinton Foundation gig.

Or both were extremely ambitious women who made a Faustian Bargain with marriage.

This was such a dumb, dumb theory. They clearly have a "mother-daughter" professional relationship. Huma was competent, loyal, and kept her mouth shut; this enabled HRC to deeply trust her and therefore she had a strong understanding of Huma's personal life. That's what happens when you spend more time on the road with your colleague than your own family.

In the end, Huma made the same mistakes as her mother-figure: she ended up with a power hungry guy who couldn't keep it in his pants. They were attracted to the same personality type.

They remain married because spouses can't be compelled to testify against each other. Duh.

You think a pair of NPR hosts made these two people marry and have a child?
