PP's point is likely that this shutdown will disproportionately impact Democrats. For instance, Democrats are much more likely to fly for leisure than Republicans, so they'll notice these hiccups first. Same with SNAP, Democrats will notice the pause in SNAP first, and uh, react (in)appropriately.

So why Democrats are using a shutdown for leverage, when their own people are disproportionately impacted raises a lot of questions.

It boggles the mind that Democrats seem to think SNAP is a disproportionately Republican program. It brings a certain Voltaire quote to mind.

Where have you been? This is one of the biggest stories of Trump's reelection that low-income voters, and in particular, people who rely on federal assistance programs were more likely to vote for Tump.

The PP is clearly operating under the assumption that all Blacks are lazy and poor and all Whites are hardworking patriots. This simple-minded and low-IQ mental shortcut causes them to ignore the fact that the plurality of SNAP recipients are White, and, indeed, that there are 37% more White recipients of SNAP than Black recipients of SNAP.

Skin color is not a predetermining factor in who receives SNAP benefits you racist fool.

Of course it isn't, which is why all the dumb MAGA trolls smugly posting that only Democrats are going to be hurt by SNAP cuts are profoundly stupid and misguided.

What they are saying is that SNAP beneficiaries disproportionately make up a key component of the Democratic base. MAGA voters won't feel it nearly as much because most are not on SNAP.

Snap recipients aren't "Republicans" or "Democrats". They are poor people. Besides, who in 2025 is still identifying as a "Republican" or "Democrat". I would be very upset with someone if they insulted me with those awful labels.

They are poor people who are getting too much to eat. A few missed meals won't kill them. SNAP beneficiaries exploded under Biden when he opened the border. It's time to shut it down until we figure out what is going on.

And what does it matter? Nothing matters anymore. There are no norms, no decorum, no civility.

There will be voting by a very angry electorate and Dems might win a lot of contests and if they do maybe they'll be able to take their seats. Nobody knows what will happen.

Dems do not control Congress. In fact Trump has dismissed the House. Republicans would have to disobey Trump and convene a session of congress. Trump would order ICE to shut that down.

Does not look like the Republicans want the partial shutdown to end.
