How can you call yourself a Christian if you have an "Christmas Tree"

Anonymous
Jeremiah 10:2-4: "Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not." (King James Version).

Clearly the bible earmarks this pagan tradition which predates the birth of Christ our Lord as idolatry. Leave the decorated trees for the heretics.

Let's blame the Germans. It's all their fault.

Jeremiah is not condemning Christmas trees. He is condemning idolatry. The trees in Jeremiah 10 are cut down to carve them into worthless idols that will later be decorated with gold and silver. Jeremiah says nothing about Christmas trees. That custom originated in northern Europe, not in ancient Palestine.

regardless, the old testament doesn't count

Op probably doesn't think Christians should celebrate Easter either because or its pagan origins. Whatever. The early church did what it had to to get people to adapt to christianity.
My question is, how do you call yourself a christian if you spend your time examining other people's souls? Get the plan out of your own eye first.

OP, not sure about you but we don't bow down or pray to the tree. Do you?

Exactly. Unless the question you are really asking is how you can be a Jew and have a tree cut down by a woodsman, decorated in silver and gold, and held fast with hammers and nails.

i.e. lie to the people in order to eventually control them--yeah, they're the "moral" ones to follow. Easter is a no-brainer, the eggs, the rabbits? Fertility idols much?

Exactly this. Plus, we have a nativity scene up in addition to the tree.

For you, OP

“Judge not, lest ye not be judged.” (Matthew 7:1)

"Many Pagan cultures used to cut boughs of evergreen trees in December, move them into the home or temple, and decorate them. Modern-day Pagans still do. This was to recognize the winter solstice -- the time of the year that had the shortest daylight hours, and longest night of the year. This occurs annually sometime between DEC-20 to 23; most often, it is DEC-21. As the solstice approached, they noticed that the days were gradually getting shorter; many feared that the sun would eventually disappear forever, and everyone would freeze. But, even though deciduous trees, bushes, and crops died or hibernated for the winter, the evergreen trees remained green. They seemed to have magical powers that enabled them to withstand the rigors of winter."

The POINT is the Christians have appropriated our "Christmas Tree" and now tell US we can't have one because we don't follow their religion! It's time to take the Winter Solstice Tree back!

Sorry, I don't follow your bible. If you do, then follow it and stop using my Winter Solstice Tree for your holiday!

I'm a Christian and never did the egg and rabbit thing. For us Easter is a time of Ressurection. There's nothing to do with horny rabbits or chicks and eggs.
