How can you call yourself a Christian if you have an "Christmas Tree"

This was to recognize the winter solstice -- the time of the year that had the shortest daylight hours, and longest night of the year. This occurs annually sometime between DEC-20 to 23; most often, it is DEC-21. As the solstice approached, they noticed that the days were gradually getting shorter; many feared that the sun would eventually disappear forever, and everyone would freeze. But, even though deciduous trees, bushes, and crops died or hibernated for the winter, the evergreen trees remained green. They seemed to have magical powers that enabled them to withstand the rigors of winter."

The POINT is the Christians have appropriated our "Christmas Tree" and now tell US we can't have one because we don't follow their religion! It's time to take the Winter Solstice Tree back!

The Native Americans would disagree with you. We don't OWN nature. We work alongside with it.

This is for you - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dS7-jcsB_WQ

I am a Native American. I was born here and everything.

Oh, are you referring to the American Indians?

Eh. What did they know? They died off.

For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not." (King James Version).

Clearly the bible earmarks this pagan tradition which predates the birth of Christ our Lord as idolatry. Leave the decorated trees for the heretics.

I'm curious why you feel the need to pick such a fight?

Relax. Enjoy the holiday. Love someone.

Surely you understand that Christmas trees have been an integral part of Christmas for hundreds of years now. Why are you concerned about this?

I ask because of the "Leave the Christ in Christmas" messages we get, or "Jesus is the reason for the season", or the people who go off when you say "Happy Holidays" instead of Merry Christmas. Trying to beat them at their own game using their own Bible.

Thank for chiming in, little atheist, doing your best to stir the pot and bringing all the reptiles to the top. FYI, Christians believe the New Testament supersedes the Old Testament and and where there is no prohibition about cutting down trees and decking them with any color or decoration.

Little Atheist? The only thing claimed was not being a Christian. Don't pagans believe in lots of gods? And who are the reptiles--all those who don't believe as you do?

I'd get out the popcorn this thread is that crazy, but I used it to make popcorn chains for my Christianized pagan winter solstice tree - or whatever.

In fairness to the atheist, many christians cite the old testament when trying to make points about morality.

Please, Christans stop buying trees and thinking they have anything to do with the birth of your Saviour; do you really think there were pine trees growing in that little town in Bethlehem?

Wow, you follow all the parts of the bible! Even the parts that contradict the other parts! You are a walking Ned Flanders!

Who resurrected this thread? It was lame last year. If you're going to dig up old ones, at least find the interesting ones.

Just realizing that I might be a reptile! I had no idea.
