+1. Maret wants to blame everyone-Hardy for having students who dare seek to play on the field that’s across the street from them, other public school students for daring to exist and desire to use public resources and DC government for having made a bad deal with them. But I have yet to hear an answer of why Maret can’t find another non-public option when every other private school in the city has been able to do so. Is their planning department incompetent or nonexistent? |
Any updates. Is anything going to happen or the issue will just quietly die? |
My bad, according to the school calendar girls practice at Hardy -- perhaps it is the boys team who practices somewhere else on Mon/Fri when not having games on Tues/Thurs at Deal or at the "away" school and using Jelleff on Wed. But there are other times that Maret could use the field other than after school when Hardy practicing too -- like 4:30 to 6:30 after Hardy has it for right after school. Or alternate days for that time slot. Does Hardy really have a viable football team? |
Maret parents paid a lot of money to fix the Jelleff field and in exchange they want some reserved practice hours. What’s unreasonable about that? What exactly have Hardy parents done, except to demonize Maret and make a practice field into some kind of polarizing “social justice” issue. If Hardy parents really want to do something, they should roll up their sleeves and try to make Hardy as good as Deal and demand more accountability from DCPS administrators — or stop making lame excuses for second-tier mediocrity. |
Maret got the benefit that they paid for. Would you like to address how the BGCGW kids could roll up their little sleeves in order to deserve space to play? Hmm? |
It’s fascinating how a group of people can go on about what great and wonderful community members they are while being selfish, smug, and aggrieved. The collective lack of self-awareness is mind-boggling. |
+1 The Maret crowd has damaged its reputation immeasurably. Unbelievably myopic and clueless. |
It's an eternal shame that the scope of this investigation covered neither the original deal nor its extension: https://www.washingtonpost.com/local/dc-politics/dc-lawmaker-jack-evans-used-office-to-benefit-private-clients-probe-finds/2019/11/04/f3e2442e-ff26-11e9-8bab-0fc209e065a8_story.html |
+ 1 more Maret got an unbeleivable below-cost (did not even cover the cost of interest on the loan to pay for the property) back-room deal. It wants to extend that deal also in the back room. The DCPS and city resident stakeholders are shining a light on the shady deal and the Maret response is irrelevant to the issue at hand, access for public school kids and public school kids in aftercare to to city resources that are required to prioritize DCPS needs. But go ahead, point your finger away from the issue to distract, it is a known and effective political tactic. But it has nothing to do with the truth. |
For those in the neighborhood, the Palisades Citizens' Association will be discussing Jelleff at their monthly Town Hall today (Wednesday) at the Palisades Rec Center from 7pm to 8:30pm. Councilmember Robert White will also be in attendance. |
Today, *Tuesday*, Nov. 5 |
Yep! |
+1. Maret has committed about 90k/year for peak hours use of a public field for the next decade. That’s peanuts, particularly since DC paid $25 million to buy the field and just committed $7 million to renovate the rec center. Maret Parent and councilman under many federal and city investigations for corruption Jack Evans keeps noting that the city is flush with cash. Maret isn’t doing the city any favors with this crap deal. It’s just avoiding paying market rates for a field or buying property as other private schools do. |
Resolution opposing the extension passed easily. |
Not surprising because it’s a rotten deal for DC that only benefits Maret, but does the resolution have any effect to reverse the Maret deal? |
