What is a satellite "handshake?"

Are they really still this way? I mean now they are a world superpower. And part of that came with accepting Western ideas about capitalism and entrepreneurship and realizing they are not an island but interconnected with the rest of the world.

As a former American diplomat living in China, I can tell you with absolute certainty that yes, they are still this way. Scrubbing the web of any mention of anything anti-government is getting more difficult, but they are still doing it.

Thank you, former diplomat.

The underlined/bold part above is from a very western point of view, which, unfortunately for westerners, couldn't be further from the truth.

Is it when one satellite hands off the tracking to the next one? Or verifies the connection to the next one?

You know that we (the US) have killed FAR more civilian Pakistanis, than they have ever killed Americans, right? Yet you still continue with your insane, baseless Pakistan theory?

The conspiracy theory seems to be that a terrorist group has the plane in a hanger in Pakistan, not that Pakistanis want to kill us. If you recall they let Bin Laden live there. It is a highly unlikely scenario, but I personally don't think you can rule out anything given that we have not one single piece of the plane as proof.

Yes, it is an impossible theory. How does a 777 land in Pakistan? The north is extremely mountainous, and there is no place it could land. None. The south is more flat, but also much less prone to "terrorism." A 777 needs a very long runway to land. You're telling me no one at a major international airport in Pakistan would leak word that MA370 is hiding at a major airport in continuous operation? That no one - not one random airport worker, would spot it? Would they just roll a 777 down a highway and hide it? Sorry, this theory is absurd and impossible.

Also, what's the point in hijacking a plane if you don't ask for anything?

Not a single person on the plane has been flagged for terrorism, or harboring such ideologies.

It's one thing to smuggle a person across a border and into a mountainous region. Hiding a major aircraft is an impossibility. The conspiracy is insanely stupid.

Read the conspiracy theory. They think the plane could be filled with explosives and used as a weapon of mass destruction. Not saying I believe it, just saying that is how the theory goes. Supposedly there are even people on the plane who's company was working on the how to hide planes so they are detected by radar-all rumor, nothing was verified as far as I know. If you go back in this thread, there is mention that terrorist groups have wanted to use planes filled with explosives for a while. How do you know something has not been leaked already and various countries are investigating it? You know we probably get only 20% of the info. There is a lot the CIA and FBI investigate that does not end up in the papers. You know to protect national security.

I'm not going to give the conspiracy BS the dignity of a click. Sorry. The hypothesis is completely baseless and impossible. Not unlikely - it's impossible.

Not the poster you are talking to. I don't think it's BS at all. I think it's totally possible. I find it interesting that you so adamantly reject the possibility. I think you are afraid to believe that it could be true. Thus your refusal to click the link.

Where is the plane and the passengers and crew? Hoping tomorrow is the day.

My prayers to the families. This has been torture for them. They need peace and time to grieve. No need to prolong their suffering. Their loved ones are gone, lost in the ocean.

What are you, the head of Malaysia? Sorry, but so far we don't have enough evidence to conclude the plane is at the bottom of the Indian Ocean. Time and continued search efforts will hopefully tell. Guess what? We still don't know if it was error or intentional either.

Yes that is accurate. Everything that most pilots know exits in terms of tracking had been turned off.

You mean they were somehow disabled. "Turned off" implies it was a deliberate action.

Good lord. Even the Australian prime minister took to a news conference last night, and said he agrees with the Malaysian PM's assertion that the plane is lost in the Indian Ocean. He agreed that all the evidence points to this, and it's a matter of finding it in the ocean - not a question of if it's in the ocean. Holding on to slight and irrational hope is common for grieving families with lots of questions, but the plane being in the Indian Ocean is 100% fact.

This may be true. Why won't Inmarsat share their data and analysis with other scientists? I know they already presented everything to a group that accepted their conclusions, but that is different than others replicating their results and playing with the assumptions. We need more minds looking at the data. If there was greater transparency maybe there would be more trust.

Do you really think that if the government, any government, suspected that a commercial airliner was hidden somewhere, and could be used to detonate explosives in or above a city, they would tell us that??? No way. Everyone would be freaking out.

omg u r ttly rite. i think bin ladin found a way to survive after he was dumped in the ocean, and his people flew the plane and picked him up in the indian ocean and then they flew to pakistan and are holding the ppl hostage and bin ladin is now piloting the plane. i mean really think about it. you can't prove this didn't happen.
