Your tin foil hat has restricted blood flow to your brain.

NP do you think it's right or normal that a private citizen is being flown around on a government plane?

The government and the GOP intend to make a martyr out of Charlie Kirk. There's almost a religious fervor about this. I really, really hope the assassin isn't some radical progressive. Because that is exactly the narrative that the government and MAGA want. Us vs Them is the core of every authoritarian movement.

The religious people I went to college with believe that he was murdered for spreading Christianity.

Very well be the truth. He was attacked constantly because of his Christian faith. He had already been physically assaulted on multiple occasions for his views.

NP.

Oh come on. He was no attacked for merely being a Christian. It is something else entirely to want to propagate your idea of Christianity onto others (and to be attacked for that), than for him just existing as a Christian. You know that.

Don’t worry, if he wasn’t radical progressive yesterday, he will be by the time he is “captured”

I was shocked by it yesterday, but I'm already sort of losing interest in it (even though I realize the irony of still posting about it).

I've gotten pretty desensitized to violence, thanks to the country's lack of gun control laws.

It’s just different. The students shot in school just minutes after him, they were innocent. The Annunciation victims, totally innocent and unaware of the dangers of going to private mass at school.
This guy? A bad decision made as an immature teen and no strength to reverse that decision- he’s not innocent.
So, yeah, I’m over it.
But… it’s a little weird that trump is acting like this is Jesus (when he probably didn’t remember his name an hour before) and maga acting like this is a call to start a civil war??
Very suss

Yeah, I'm not in favor of political violence, but I can't get that worked up about this shooting, considering no one seems to care much about the kids gunned down in school. I guess I can be outraged by both, but I find one a lot more upsetting.

Same with NYT. Their editorial board convened to post “America mourns Charlie Kirk.” Background is the flag half mast at the White House.

I don’t see how any Dems stay subscribed. Board hasn’t done this for any other gun violence victims.

I actually feel bad for Charlie Kirk that he’s been reduced to a MAGA tactic, a political weapon.

Just stop. The man with the white hat is part of Kirk’s group.

Then why are they making those gestures right as he got shot? Genuinely curious. Were they signaling to move onto the next question? Seems odd, no.

Oh it’s a conspiracy! If only we knew the name of the man in the white hat! He must be wearing a mission impossible type mask.

I saw a guy adjusting the brim of his hat on a sunny day and scratching his nose.

That man was part of his security team. His security team were dressed in plain clothes.

So why was the guy in black tee next to the guy adjusting the brim of his hat making signs with his arms after looking both ways immediately after? Is it some security thing?

They will, and that's exactly why political violence is such a bad idea no matter how much you hate a person. You give them a status they never had in life. Trump is a disgusting person, and the worst president we've ever had, but god help us if he were ever assassinated.

Charlie wasn’t a corporate executive, supposedly personally “responsible” for any negative effects of corporate policies.

Charlie wasn’t a foreign diplomat or staff to whom blame for that foreign nation’s policies could be ascribed.

No, Charlie was an advocate for his faith and his political beliefs, as well as for open and cordial debate about both. This was a political assassination at its most basic core - not because someone was angry about a policy that Charlie had enacted, or that he was currently facilitating, or that he might in the future implement - but rather for no other reason than the public expression of his ideas. He was shot because of his discussions about his beliefs and for no other reason; and that should be a wake up call for all of us, right and left.

This will not end well.

He had a large influence on a lot of people, and was said to give advice to Trump. Anyone with that kind of influence can be a target.

+1.

Charlie Kirk founded Turning Point USA. Trump, along with many other conservative politicians and commentators, had credited him for securing the young vote in 2024. He was very influential in that space. His company was 100 million dollar a year. This was a targeted attack on free speech and him being a conservative.

lol no Turning point USA attacks free speech and the constitution. Pleas stop with your gaslighting.

Disagreeing with your point of view is not attacking free speech. That is the exercise of free speech. Most free speech Supreme Court cases are focused on precisely the sort of speech lots of people find offensive. That's the whole point of free speech. You have the right to offend people with your words without the government penalizing you. Gunning someone down is another matter entirely.

Yes it is not the government restricting his speech. Again we know what Kirk and Turning Point stood did. They were not on the west values side and actively worked to strip free speech rights from those they opposed.

Any and all democrats celebrating is excusing his death are the biggest POS. Be better. Do better. No death should be celebrated. No political assassination should be celebrated. Evil.

Which specific Democrats are celebrating? Nobody I know is even talking about this.

So you want to move on from his murder before law enforcement catches his killer?

Yup. he didn’t deserve it but he deserves no more sympathy and attention than any of the thousands of gun victims in this country. Which is to say 24 hours even in the cases of the most horrible attacks on children.

I have every confidence that Kirk's murderer will be found and brought to justice, as he should be.

But it's difficult to miss the irony of a staunch 2A supporter dying by gun violence.

Is it time to quote this again?

““I think it’s worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights,” he said.”

The ones I have seen celebrating on social media are teachers and professors- people who have no business educating our youth. Some have lost their jobs as a result of their callous posts.
