How could someone whom everyone seems to have liked, who showed no signs of depression, have suddenly turned into a mass murderer? It is nonsensical.

I've been convinced from the beginning that it was mechanical failure. I think it's a "ghost plane" scenario caused by catastrophic mechanical failure that the pilot could not fix.

It is hard to read suicidal intent.

Apparently his marriage had fallen apart recently; wife had moved out.

There are also reports that he spent the day - his last day - watching the trial of his favorite politician.

The politcian was sentenced to 5 years for homosexuality - and then the pilot left the courtroom & got into the cockpit.

Actually, the politician was convicted of sodomizing his female secretary. The politician happens to be on the opposite side of the ruling party. Given how politics operate in this part of the world, maybe the story about the pilot being a fanatic and killing himself and everyone on board is at least partially politically motivated.

That the pilot said he would land the plane safely in exchange for the release of his politician friend. That when the negotiation talks stalled, and Malaysia refused the demands the pilot flew the plane into the ocean. That is why they are calling Malay officials murderers etc.

Yes, Chinese friend mentioned this.

Holy Mother of conspiracy theories!! Now THAT is new and original; I had not heard that angle.

Anyone find a link or story on that?

That is a wonderful theory that takes all the blame for maintaining the airplane, checking if the cargo was safe or not, or anything else Malaysia Airlines might have done wrong and places it right on a dead man who can never speak. Nice one.

Agree - almost certainly politically motivated to suppress opposition.

Assuming the facts are even true, did the secretary want this or was it a sexual assault allegedly? Or, could the ruling party have paid a secretary to make a false allegation?

That actually makes more sense to me than most of the other options....

Then why weren't fighter planes sent to escort the airplane? If that happened, we would know what happened to the plane and where it is. Unless the Malaysian government already knows all of this. Dun, dun, duh!

Well, right, if this theory was true obviously the Malaysian gov't would have been lying from day one.

This. There are several things that don't fit well with mechanical failure/ghost plane theories alone (maybe in combination, but not alone, one of them being the ACARS and transponder turned off)

CNN is reporting that ships are within an hour of the most recent debris that was spotted in the new search area. Maybe we'll find out soon if this is evidence of the plane crash.....

No link to this particular story, but the Miami herald published an op ed by a Malaysian today entitled "in Malaysia, truth is a stranger" in which she outlines all the evil deeds the ruling elite are suspected of doing to stay in power and hide their corruption. In this article she says that the mh370 pilot is a relative of the convicted politician's son in law.

No details provided in the article. Looking at the picture of the man and his wife one could believe the story is fabricated, especially given the stakes involved. The man was convicted of sodomy and sentenced to time in prison, but the bigger story is that his conviction bars him from ever seeking office.

So....how did that work? Did the pilot stay in contact by radio? Or was it done by cell phone after all contact was last with the plane?

I am trying to find the links, although they were mostly in Chinese. It was on reddit a few days ago with lots of people who were in China and far more familiar with the theory providing input. reddit's search engine is worse than DCUMs so not sure if I can find it again. The jist of it was Malaysia knew where the plane was the whole time and know where it is now. They also don't believe the Immersat pings and think Malaysia knows where they plane is. I feel for all the families in this...and thinking that people know far more than they do and that they are misleading you must be devastating.
