History shows the retreating side blows the dam.

That would be Russia. They're spent, have made no significant progress in 8 months, whereas the Ukrainians are replenished and ready to go on the offensive.

Remember when the US fought a twenty year war in Afghanistan and in the end nothing changed.

So far, this Ukraine war is almost ten years on... why not another ten?

The reason nothing changed in Afghanistan was because the us wasn’t willing to do what the Chinese do in xinjiang.

It wasn’t a capability issue but an issue of will/resolve and self imposed guardrails

Ukraine will grind on for a decade more because neither side has the capability.

In other words, the US will make sure Ukraine goes back to the stone age.

Great job Biden lads.

The US is not running this war or Ukraine.

The US is not running the war, just providing the money, equipment, logistical support, intelligence, satellites, rules of engagement and strategy. The war is over in two weeks if the US bows out.

^ bot spewing moral lowering propaganda designed to grind down and influence others to simply “give in” to the invasion. Fk off.

That's the truth, not propaganda. Without the Western weapons, money and materiel, the war would have been over quickly. I don't know why you argue with the obvious.

Dp- Right… that’s right. I remember Russia taking Kiev in 3 days 😂

+1 I remember listening to Radio Sputnik on 2/24/2022. They said the defeat of Ukraine was a fait accompli. There was no use discussing whether the invasion was right or wrong. It has simply happened, and now the only question was how do we adjust to a world without Ukraine.

If the West was confident that Ukraine would prevail by itself, they wouldn't be sending weapons.

We are sending weapons just because it is fun. Have you watched the videos of Russian stuff getting blown up? They are hilarious!

It is our past time since most major sports are just about done here and in Europe.

You're a sicko. They're definitely not hilarious. I don't care who it is... getting blown apart, burned alive, dismembered, etc. is never hilarious.

Lots of sick stuff like that in Ukrainian language groups and forums. Understandable I guess but…

DP. The Russians are running death squad and shipping children who they don’t kill off to who knows where but it’s sick to talk about killing Russians? Sure.

I mean,
For me an average person’s death is nothing to enjoy. Be they black, white, Russian or Ukrainian. I guess it makes me a troll on this thread but I don’t care.

And along with it, reports of the oblast descending into anarchy, with looting and other things going on. People are starting to wonder if the Kremlin even cares about anyone outside of Moscow.

Of course they don’t care and people know it! Have known forever.
It’s just hard to accept, like “mommy doesn’t love you”. Now they are reminded of the harsh truth.
I don’t know if the Shebekino ordeal has any bearing on the overall conflict though, in the grand scheme of things

On one hand it's a play to see if Russia relocates troops to secure its own damn border. If they don't, it shows they are overextended and can't even protect themselves, let alone wage war on someone else. And the longer it goes on, the more it shows the emperor Putin has no clothes. And, some of the folks in Bashkort and many other places are taking note of it.

The big lie was that as "One Russia" the Russian Federation would protect all. The truth of it was more like the Russian Federation would keep everyone in line by threat. But if they can't even deal with some bunch of goons in Belgorod their ability to threaten is rapidly drying up.

Anyone can take note of anything but what they do about it is the real question. And I don’t think there ever was an illusion that Moscow isn’t more important than “Bashkort” as you call it.

And even if we take the ones not supported by the US, N Korea and Cuba has been holding up for decades

I am not using toilets as the definition of success. Just the regime that’s still there.

I certainly hope we've moved on from that dumb "has toilets versus does not have toilets" notion that surfaced here a day or two ago.

I am afraid it will stick just like calling everyone remotely doubtful about the party line on the war in ukraine a bot or a troll…

Aww, you're still butthurt over having your motives rightly questioned for giving aid and comfort to the Russian aggressors? Please become more self-aware.

+1000. And beating their own soldiers heads in with sledgehammers. Releasing convicted mass murderers, serial killers and child rapists out of prison, arming them and letting them run rampant. Firing on humanitarian assistance groups trying to evacuate civilians from the flood they caused. Russia is sick, sick, sick. But sure, your entire moral outrage is over some rando on a keyboard throwing around epithets like 'rot in hell.' Stop "bothsidesing" this.

If Zelensky cannot blow this open with his promised offensive, it’s time to shut this war down.

Don’t forget the costs to Ukrainians and even- gasp- the children and the elderly in Russia (I know everyone there is supposed to be suffering indiscriminately but still).

It's ironic that Russia invades a neighboring, formerly trusted and allied, country without cause; and seeks sympathy for that?

Pull out of Ukraine. Boom. War stops.

Russia’s greatest military victories are scorched earth retreats. That’s how they survived Napoleon and Hitler.

It is fair to judge a nation by the company they keep.

Lots of angry posting by the Ukraine backers today. That's confirmation enough at how bad this offensive is going.

We have confirmed Leopards and possibly a Bradley or two lost. The 505th is calling their commanders criminals and refusing to fight after being led into an ambush. AFU tactics are bizarre to say the least. They must have believed their own propaganda about fighting conscripts sharing a shovel and being out of ammo.

In that scenario, millions of Ukrainians are killed under Russia goal of genocide.

Why is this a good thing, comrade?

Russia has never said it wanted to exterminate Ukrainians, and their actions within occupied territories are not consistent with genocidal intent. But I understand you need to believe that.

I am sure that Russia would prefer that Ukrainians simply accept their subservient status as part of the Russian empire. But given that Ukraine is not going to surrender, Russia believes that it has no choice but to commit genocide.

https://www.justsecurity.org/81789/russias-eliminationist-rhetoric-against-ukraine-a-collection/

Rhetoric means nothing. I mean the US says it's all about democracy and human rights, but their international posture and choice of friends speaks otherwise, don't you think?

Look at actions, not words.

The Russian Government and military are guilty of War Crimes, chooses North Korea, Iraq and other dictatorships as "friends", so what does that make Russia? Besides, according to Shoigu, Russia is doing just fine.

"The attempts at an offensive were thwarted, the enemy was stopped," he added. "The enemy did not achieve its goals but suffered significant and incomparable losses."
https://www.yahoo.com/news/russias-shoigu-ukraines-counter-offensive-155226283.html

If Shoigu is right, then you shouldn't need to post anymore! Actions are what matter. Go do something else. Go back to work! Have fun! Drink some Vodka and toast Russia's victory!

I think you use too few exclamation points. Use more! That'll make you sound more passionate.

So you're saying it's bad to count dictatorships amongst friends? Very well. I'm going to tune into the DOS briefing to hear them say they are severing relations with KSA, Kuwait, UAE, Qatar and Bahrain. Khalas. No more trade, no more weapons trading, no more oil, no more nothing. They are dictators and dictators cannot be our friends.

Cue "well THAT"s different."

Meh, we criticize those regimes all the time for human rights stuff. That's not a reason to accept russian barbarity. Or maybe we're just racist? Isn't that what you usually say? That it's ok for brown people to be authoritarian but not white. The Dagestanis need to be ruled with an iron fist otherwise they'll just rape and murder each other.

But as much as this is a lovely distraction let's not lose sight of what we're talking about. russia invaded Ukraine in a war of imperial conquest with express goal of erasing Ukraine and Ukrainian identity from history. russia has committed mass war crimes and crimes against humanity as part of this effort. russia has also committed hilarious acts of corruption and incompetency that have made it the laughingstock of the world. Nevertheless despite the odds being greatly against them Ukraine has perservered, still stands, and is making gains as we speak. Meanwhile russia is in disarray, panicking, and destroying its own future for nothing.

Your non capitalized spelling of a country name kinda gives you away…

As what? Someone who has no respect for russia or the people that enable it? I'll gladly admit to that. putin's russia is nothing but Mobutu's Zaire.

Just because Russia has no toilets doesn't mean that we should forget that Russia has no toilets. The only good thing that this war has done for Russia is that it has brought toilets to formerly toilet free regions. Of course they stole those toilets from Ukrainian houses after killing and raping the inhabitants but the war crimes and barbarity are worth it because now they have some toilets.

I really want to know if the shark that ate the 23 year old Russian guy on video was sent by Putin to get draft dodgers or it was just random.

I think Russia is training sharks to globally kill its citizens who fled to avoid mobilization.

It seems like another sledge hammer tactic.
