Ukrainian victory over Russia is inevitable

Russia blew up the dam...it is their way of screwing Ukraine on the way out.

Does it really matter in the grand scheme of things? Ok they may well have done it and it makes me worried about the nuclear power plant! That’s what matters and not whodunnit

That goes to show how little the Russians care about the people of Crimea.

Who even says they do?
The question now is whether trying to get it back is caring about the people of Crimea on the part of Ukraine

The dam was damaged by Russia. Everyone knows that.

The pipeline damage was NOT done by Russian government forces, but we're still not sure which anti-government outfit was able to do something so complex, and which nationals were involved (Russian saboteurs, Ukrainians, Europeans from various countries, probably not Americans).

The manned and unammed attacks in Russia are implemented by pro-Ukrainians forces. The boots on the ground may not be Ukrainian nationals, but sympathetic Russians.

All this is easy to understand if you remember that these two countries were in the USSR - there are plenty of Ukrainian Russians, and Russian Ukrainians, on both sides of the conflict. My own Godmother is Russian of Ukrainian origin.

Nice to hear the voice of reason

Sooo many cycles spent on Russia. They are a cancer - turn it it into glass and get it over with. Not a religious or race war; just basic good verses evil…and Russia is not good. Russia with Putin v.2 will show up in next 6 months if we do not kill it when we can.

LOL everyone knows that. Sure Jan. EVERYONE. Why not go with the simplest possible explanation? Multiple shelling from both sides has weakened and eventually damaged the dam.

russia mined the dam in October and has been threatening to blow it up since then.

They did this because they panicked about the upcoming counter-offensive.

They even passed a random yet oddly specific new law on May 31st that suspends, until 2028, the requirement for investigations if a hydroelectric dam in the occupied territories gets breeched.

It was russia. russia did this. russia did this because they are scared of another epic humiliation and the flooding provides some limited defensive benefits.

If anything, Ukraine blew the dam to cover their loses of the last few days. Ukraine has lost hundreds of armor and thousands of troops in the last few days, including western tanks like the AMX-10RC. They also looked like conscripts driving around in random directions in equipment they are unfamiliar with. No way Russia floods their own defensive positions and cuts off Crimean water for that.

Even Prigozhin says that those claims are lies.

"I think that Baron Munchausen is resting. And judging by what is written here, we will soon get to the aliens - with such losses. To destroy one and a half thousand people, it must be such a massacre, per day, over 150 kilometers, that mother do not grieve. Therefore, I think that this is just from the realm of wild, sloppy fantasy. In general, you need to add up all the numbers that Konashenkov gives. I think that we have just destroyed the entire planet Earth five times.”

Tell me you don't read Russian without telling me you don't read Russian.

I don't read russian and have never claimed to. Would you care to proffer an alternative translation?

DP. It has a lot of specific sayings, the one boldened being something like “unbelievable” or unthinkable

They are. There are huge individual contributions coming in to support the war effort.

Sure. That’s why I see all the ukranians driving rolls Royce and Lamborghini in Sunny isles. They are giving so much!

You sure they aren’t Russians? You aren’t supposed to say it but it’s hard to tell them apart

Apart from the potential loss of life directly as well as the damage that floodwaters cause, that reservoir was the main source of water for most Ukrainian agriculture as well as part of the coolant for a nuclear power plant.

Exactly, time to stop the speculation and address the nuclear power plant concern!

Russia's sphere of influence and circle of friends just keeps shrinking and shrinking.

Bulgaria wasn’t pro Russian at the govt level for a few years now, maybe a decade even. They are Russian business and money friendly, or were, but they clearly gravitated towards the EU and introduced visas for Russians as part of that effort

Despite anything Russian media claims, there are numerous reports of the Free Russia Legion still marauding throughout southern Belgorod Oblast, still in control of a few villages almost a week in, still destroying Russian military equipment and warehouses. And along with it, reports of the oblast descending into anarchy, with looting and other things going on. People are starting to wonder if the Kremlin even cares about anyone outside of Moscow.

People on here were talking about an inevitable Ukraine counteroffensive that would push Russia back. If this counteroffensive failed, then blowing the dam would stop Russia from going further after beating the counteroffensive.

History shows the retreating side blows the dam.

That would be Russia. They're spent, have made no significant progress in 8 months, whereas the Ukrainians are replenished and ready to go on the offensive.

Remember when the US fought a twenty year war in Afghanistan and in the end nothing changed.

So far, this Ukraine war is almost ten years on... why not another ten?

The reason nothing changed in Afghanistan was because the us wasn’t willing to do what the Chinese do in xinjiang.

It wasn’t a capability issue but an issue of will/resolve and self imposed guardrails

Ukraine will grind on for a decade more because neither side has the capability.

In other words, the US will make sure Ukraine goes back to the stone age.

Great job Biden lads.

The US is not running this war or Ukraine.

The US is not running the war, just providing the money, equipment, logistical support, intelligence, satellites, rules of engagement and strategy. The war is over in two weeks if the US bows out.

In that scenario, millions of Ukrainians are killed under Russia goal of genocide.

Why is this a good thing, comrade?

DP and I am sure you will call me a bot but nobody was going to kill “millions of Ukrainians”. Genocide would be impossible because there is no such thing as a 100% Ukrainian. And with the one blood rule or whatever they would have to kill like half of Russia.

Yes, because he's now ruling entirely by fear. He has ordered any oligarch in position of power who voices the least doubt, thrown out of windows or otherwise assassinated, to avoid a coup d'etat. His new laws restricting freedom of speech have pulled tons of people into jail, some of whom were sent to the front to fight. An entire generation of young men is being traumatized in Ukraine, because they are being forced to kill innocent people.

Russians hate Putin. But they've never had an uprising that turned out well for them in their history, so they're not about to mount a revolution now. But when Putin inevitably weakens, he will die and Russians won't mourn him.

Finally someone who gets it

I think two weeks is too optimistic but yes I do think Russia could be defeated quickly if the US constraints were removed. The US is preventing Ukraine from attacking Russia directly. Remove those constraints and it will be on to Moscow for the Ukrainian military.

DP I doubt it will be that successful but surely there would be destruction of millions of Russians, by any means at the service of Ukrainians.
It’s hard to blame them but there is definitely a strong want to kill as many Russians as possible rn

Does it? The Al-Saud is doing quite well. And America is delighted with it. Same with Al-Sabah, Al-Khalifah, Al-Maktoum.

And even if we take the ones not supported by the US, N Korea and Cuba has been holding up for decades
