I have not read this whole thread, and I think this case clearly "benefits" from the missing girl being young, pretty, and white, but I'm not sure that's where *all* the attention comes from. This is a mystery and everyone gets to play armchair detective. It's practically entertainment, like the murder podcasts that are so popular.

While I think you underestimate the cumulative effects of racism and slavery, you're dead on that this story is about violated social norms. And, the killed lesbian couple. This story was interesting because of all the shady stuff Brian did after Gabby disappeared.

When people go missing and there are no clues, no trails, no hints and no obvious suspects, it’s a lot less interesting.
