Our summer team announced that all coaches are either already fully vaccinated or have had at least one dose and are scheduled for the second. My DD is getting the second shot this weekend, and but honestly has no problem wearing a mask from the clubhouse to the pool if asked (it’s suggested but not required at our pool for anyone not fully vaccinated yet). I have a feeling she’ll go with the flow on this; if her friends want to mask, she will too (her BFF has a slightly alarmist mom so this may happen).

That’s good. Our coaches aren’t all vaccinated. They won’t be. I have no problem with that and they are working with kids under 12. I don’t take issue with it, I’m just wondering how those who feel everyone should mask feel about their swimmers working with unmasked, unvaccinated coaches. I guess if they are uncomfortable with it they don’t do it.

Why aren’t your coaches vaccinated? All of ours over 16 are fully vaccinated and the few the coaches under 16 have had one shot and will be getting the second soon.

They don’t want it. They are against receiving the vaccine. No different from many others who aren’t vaccinated yet.

Glad I’m not at your pool. And exactly why the NVSL should leave the mask rules up to each host pool. Much different deck settings, much different vaccine rates, much different deck space and much different comfort levels.

What can you do? We can’t make them vaccinate. I know our team rep and assistant team rep aren’t vaccinated. Two of our referees and an assistant coach aren’t vaccinated.

Yikes. The old fogie lap swimmers at our pool would pitch a fit, as would some of the swim team parents.

Are those parents for keeping the NVSL mask policy? I assume yes.

I assume no. They must be Covid deniers. All of our reps, officials, etc are vaccinated. Only one parent with a medical condition isn’t vaccinated. I imagine this parent is from a pool on the edge of NVSL.

How do you know this? I'm on the board of a small swim club with an NVSL team and we are very active with the club and the NVSL. I wouldn't know how many parents are or are not vaccinated.

What do you mean, "edge of NVSL"?

Exactly. How do you people know so much about everyone's vaccination status? I have no clue who on our team is vaccinated or not, and frankly I don't care. My kids are. That's what I care about.

When is the vote?

Votes need to be in by noon today.

I’m imagining there must be some pools that have rules that reflect the more stringent approach, and NVSL is under pressure to adopt the most restrictive rules so as not to offend or exclude. They should at this point have an idea of what local pool rules are … hopefully none of the pools are so nuts as to require masking outdoors at this point. It should be optional. If you are concerned about catching Covid outside, it’s on you to wear and n95–the rest of us understand lightening is probably bigger risk for kids right now.

Who is voting? Nvsl board or all of the team reps?

Team reps gave their input to the division coordinators. Each DC and the rest of the board is voting.

Although our team is large we are social with one another. All of our reps/coaches/volunteers are vaccinated. We have a LARGE number of our 12 and up also in the process.

DP
We are probably a relatively small team (115 swimmers or so I'd guess) and we are social, but still I couldn't definitively say which or how many volunteers are vaccinated.

Hopefully this weekend.

"people do not need to wear masks" outdoors, regardless of vaccination status according to the CDC. Why is this even up for a vote?
