Man asked woman to leash her dog in a public park -- she called the police on him

Serious question for those posters who believe this woman was not in the wrong. Why do you believe she stated that she would tell the police there was an "African American male...."????? Do you believe she would have stated "white male" had he been white?

Her behavior is appalling.

His is mildly uncool.

You don't try to get a stranger's dog to come to you with treats.

You don't film a woman alone in a wooded area because her cocker spaniel (FFS) is not leashed. If she asks you to stop filming her, maybe you should.

I leash my pit bull and I do dog rescue and I don't approve of her having her dog off leash or the way she tossed the dog around while on the ohone. I am glad they took the dog back and am sorry for the dog.

And the obvious "african american man" statements, clearly she's being racist.

People shouldn't make every disagreement or conflict a police interaction. She was ridiculous to escalate it like that.

I am a black woman and I agree with you, but if it were a white male she probably would have claimed rape. Just saying...

You're allowed to be filmed in public. There is no expectation of privacy. People who insist on breaking the law are often filmed by witnesses. People who insist on acting a fool are often filmed by witnesses. The only person who is at fault here is that fool Amy.

She wouldn't have called the police on a white guy to begin with because a white guy telling her to put her dog on a leash isn't an insult but a black man doing so is.

It's an interesting turn about. Usually white people harass black people for doing trivial, every day life things while black. Usually it would be the white person who is trying to admonish the "lawbreaker". You can't BBQ here, you can't sell water here, you can't deliver packages in a gated community because you are black....

In this case it was a black person who took it upon themselves to admonish a white person for rule breaking.

I wonder how the situation would appear - before the calling of the cops - if it had been a black off-leash dog owner being lectured and filmed by a white person?

Yes, you are allowed to be filmed in public , but I wonder how many of you have had that happen? I was filmed -- with my minor children -- in public by a stranger who wouldn't stop when I asked, and it was very scary and very creepy.

Now, I'm not a lunatic nor a racist nor someone who would make up an unhinged lie to police nor an animal abuser. She is all of those things. That is totally on her.

But from personal experience -- being filmed by a stranger in public is not cool even if perfectly legal.

You're ignoring the police element. White people attempt to police my actions all the time. That's a fact of life. But when they involve the cops, my life is in danger. That is what people are reacting to. It's not about who is the bigger busy body, it's who is weoponizing race and wielding a racist system that claims to protect us all for their own benefit, while also claiming not to be racist.

Yeah I'm sure it's uncomfortable. But its not illegal, and sometimes it's warranted. Having that video could have been the thing that saved his reputation or even his life. This guy wasn't being a perv. He was filming someone willfully breaking the law and then threatening his life.

We hike probably every weekend. And each time, we encounter someone with a dog that is not on a leash. If it's in some remote far away place, Appalachian trail, I get it, you want your dog to roam. Freedom, I get it. But, we're not at the AP trail, each time, a dog would come towards us and start barking like we did something. Some dogs are on the friendlier side wanting to interact with you but you kinda know when some dogs are not seeking for companionship. And my DH has to shout out, get your dog on a leash. It's crazy.
The worse is when the dogs are not the friendly breed, you know, those pitbulls, rotweiler, mastiff type. And usually the dog is barking at us like we are threatening them. A few minutes is a long time. And worse than that is when the owner shows up and says, the dog is never like this. He's a friendly dog. Really. Well, get your dog to stop barking. Each time, we have to say, we didn't do anything. Dogs just come running towards us.

It makes the nice hike less enjoyable after that and me complaining for the rest of the way about unleashed dogs. Every time, at the parking area, I see the signs thats keep your dog on a leash in bigger fonts than any of the other words on there.

Yes, these kinds of things happen to Black people in America regularly. Truth is, few White people believed the extent of our plight until phones w/ video capability came along (~2003). I've traveled to three continents and spent roughly 7 years living in 4 separate countries. I'm going to put it this way - the U.S. does have a overt racism and classism problem.

But Europe has a plain 'You look like you're from sub-Saharan Africa and I'm going to treat you like a dirty migrant' problem. It changes when they find out you're American but I shouldn't have to pull out a passport to be treated as an equal.

Asia has a 'OMG let me touch the black person, ohhh you're so dark/ugly' problem. You ever go to Japan and try to date someone you'll quickly find out they don't do that there, although to be fair Japanese families look down on their children dating anyone (white, Thai, Hispanic it doesn't matter) outside of the culture. Look up Hafu videos if you're bored.

South America was actually awesome. Just avoid those weird German/Nazi enclaves (I'm not kidding - founded by Germans fleeing random 19th Century wars/World War/World War II) that pop up in every country. You'll know them when you see them, it looks like Sweden in the middle of the jungle.

She apologized. She admitted she was in the wrong and her statements were unacceptable. Have Tawana Brawley or Crystal Magnum apologized for their nonsense or is only "Karens" who need to do so?

I'm sorry is not really adequate when you knowingly threatened someone's life and are only doing so to avoid facing the consequences. If her apology is genuinely felt, good for her. I hope she does some self-examination and grows as a person. But I still believe she should pay the consequences of her actions. She will likely lose her job for becoming a public embarrassment. She should also be charged with filing a false report.
