ludicrous. 'swim instruction' gets people much closer together than say jumping off diving board for fun. I want to cry.

I am pretty sure that "swim instruction" is being allowed because there was a big lobbying effort from a lot of the local year round swim clubs. I know a few are renting outdoor pool space to get kids back in the water. The only people allowed on the deck are coaches and there are a lot of guidelines for everyone to follow. I don't think anyone will be getting too close. Kids will be in the water with one kid per lane and coaches will be on deck so social distancing will be followed.

Very sad. I wonder how they come up with these “restrictions” sometimes. It’s got to be riskier to eat in an indoor restaurant than to go to the outdoor pool, Max capacity 50!

Agreed. Being outside in the sun and st the pool is a lot less risky than getting your hair down. A lot of common sense has been lost in this entire reopening process.

our pool announced you can lap swim 5x a week for 1 hr, but the kicker is that it is only available for those 18+ which is ridiculous and would mean half the lifeguards aren't even allowed to lap swim.

yes- that is sillly. I suspect that they will have lots of empty slots and will open it up to more ages.

For members of pools that have already opened but are only allowing adults to lap swim.... what has demand been like so far? If there are lots of empty slots, are your pools planning to modify these rules to allow under-18 lap swimmers?

Did the Governor address phases and rules at all? My wife watched and said he didn’t .

Demand is there. Most fill up. I think we end up with about 4 vacant slots each day. We allow swimmers age 7+.

Thanks. So we are still guessing as far as Phase 2 restrictions?
A PP said we are staying in Phase 1. I’ll look for that.

Until June 5 or after June 5? Rest of Virginia is also still in phase 1 right?

The specific Phase 2 restrictions should be published and discussed on Thursday at the next press conference, today he just announced some of the general restrictions that would be changing.

Only very generally. Virginia starting phase two on Friday except for NoVa and Richmond. Said phase two guidelines would be issued before his next press conference on Thursday. They will presumably be posted here:

https://www.virginia.gov/coronavirus/forwardvirginia/

As others have noted he referenced "exercise and instruction" with respect to pools but it wasn't clear whether or not recreational swimming (with capacity limits) will be allowed in phase 2.

I surely hope so. 50% at indoor restaurants? I’d feel safer with 50% on a pool deck or in sections of pools.

Yes I’m curious if he’s going to address outdoor vs. indoor pools.

Well it does say seating provided. Right now our pool isn’t doing seating. But this could potentially mean a family can take turns in the lane and sit on deck.
