I hit a goose and now my neighborhood is at war

It's a felony to hurt a goose. Migratory Bird Treaty Act.

Scoundrel.

PSA:

In DC you can call animal control and give them the location. They’ll take the animal to City Wildlife in NW DC, up by the Humane Rescue Alliance. City Wildlife will look at it and decide whether to euthanize or rehabilitate. No cost to you in time or $ except for phoning. You can call City Wildlife in a few hours or next day and they’ll tell you what they did.

I did this for a woodcock (an odd-looking migratory bird with a large beak). They told me they euthanized it. They even take pigeons apparently.

I don’t know about Maryland and geese made up by trolls.

10 years ago I worked a local zoo (not national, one of the sad petting zoos). There were tons of Canada geese, and one day the owner had us round them all up. I thought we were relocating them, but turns out he sent them to some shitty zoo in Winchester where they were fed to the animals.

It is illegal to harm or kill these birds. You actually can be arrested. I would definitely lay low, don't admit fault and if confronted say it was an accident. Cry a little.

How do you prove it is Canadian? Do they have specific markings? I love to eat goose and would like to shoot them for food but have never been able to distinguish the Canadian from the American goose.

God you’re stupid. All migratory birds are protected.

I hit a deer in Potomac ... called animal control ... police officer showed up and shot it in the head with his service revolver.

I’m in Fairfax County and saw an injured deer limping along my fence line. A Fairfax County police officer went searching for the deer, shot at it twice and missed both times. He came back to apologize and explained that he was unable to continue “hunting” and that nature would have to take over.

Shortly thereafter, I was driving home at night and stopped for what looked like a car accident with police response. I heard a gunshot, then was waved on by;
the car hit a deer and the police officer shot it.

Anyway, I find this thread fascinating and dare I say, funny - especially the GUS KLR plates!

Well, she wears a Canada goose as a jacket now.

But ... on a different DCUM thread, I heard those were tacky ?

You people trying too hard to make this thread into a DCUM “classic” are going to come back in two years, wonder why you thought acting like callous jacka$$es was funny, and groan at your own sophomoric jokes. You heard it here first.

What’s got you down? Did someone ruffle your feathers?

It’s sh!tty to leave an animal that you hit to die in agony. Even a Canada goose.

OP, you suck. If this thread is even true.

Stop trying to make this thread happen. OP stole the idea from the Lakeland listserve.

+1. Legally and dare I say morally for the suffering. Even obnoxious Canada geese.

I appreciated the “ruffle your feathers” comment, pp. I’m sorry the fun police have showed up.

Anonymous wrote:Yes, I hit a goose and kept driving. We have a pond in our neighborhood that has a goose infestation problem that is the source of many NextDoor and neighborhood list serve threads, with people very involved on both sides, basically leave the geese alone they are nature and they are disgusting and leave poop everywhere let’s get rid of them.

I am on neither side and have never paid much attention.

Today I nicked one, there are probably 30-40 total, and kept going in my car. They are very slow and were crossing and I was thinking I could maneuver around them instead of waiting 5 min for them to cross as they grazed. I was apparently seen and my license taken down and tracked. Currently the source of a debate on both sites.

My plan is to continue to say nothing. Tell me how this is going to turn out. I really don’t want to be the goose killer lady but I am, so I just need to ride this out.

Troll post.

Yeah, if pp hadn’t “nicked” that pun from several earlier try-hards, it might have been funny this time.

Also the “down” thing has already been used.

As if geese who aren't hit by cars die pain-free deaths floating away on a morphine drip surrounded by family.
Get over it, people. Wild animals either starve to death, die of disease, or are eaten alive by another animal. The ones who get shot or hit by a car at high speed probably suffer the least. Of course nobody wants an animal to suffer unnecessarily, but you are living in la-la-land if you think this goose somehow had a worse death than any of its brethren.

Troll fail anyway. An actual hunter would know there are seasons when it’s ok to shoot migratory ducks.
