I hit a goose and now my neighborhood is at war

Well, she wears a Canada goose as a jacket now.

OP, are you sure you didn't pull up a nextdoor thread from the Lakelands community from 2 years ago and post it here?

But ... on a different DCUM thread, I heard those were tacky ?

You people trying too hard to make this thread into a DCUM “classic” are going to come back in two years, wonder why you thought acting like callous jacka$$es was funny, and groan at your own sophomoric jokes. You heard it here first.

Sheesh, that's a weird thing to get huffy about. Goosen up a little.

I think you should lean into it. If you say it was an accident, the pro-Goose people will not forgive you. They will say the outcome of not waiting was predictable (it was- these geese walk around like they own the place and you have to give them time). Since you didn't wait for the geese, they will label you uncaring.

The only supportive side will be the anti goose side.

"Yeah I did it. Took matters into my own hands. And I'll do it again."

While not exactly true, it will give you some allies.

It is illegal to harm or kill these birds. You actually can be arrested. I would definitely lay low, don't admit fault and if confronted say it was an accident. Cry a little.

How do you prove it is Canadian? Do they have specific markings? I love to eat goose and would like to shoot them for food but have never been able to distinguish the Canadian from the American goose.

+100. I am laughing and freaked out at the same time. So sorry, OP.

I saw an injured deer on the side of the road in Arlington at 11pm or so. I called the Animal control and they assured me they would take care of it. I of course, don't know that they did, but the animal control officer did call me back to verify location (I had originally talked to whomever answered the phone). I assume they do euthanize them occasionally so that they can prevent more traffic accidents (wounded deer wandering into traffic)

I was wondering the same thing. I didn't know the specific community but I remember hearing a similar story from a ways back. I think OP is trolling and laughing herself silly that she began a thread that got traction.

Don't feed the troll, folks.

I haven't read the entire thread, but you bring up something I was wondering about in OP's situation. How would the angry neighbors know whether or not she called animal control when she got to wherever she was going? Just because someone calls, that doesn't mean that animal control's necessarily going to rush right over to take care of it.
Anonymous
OP, where were you going in such a rush that you couldn’t call animal control?
Anonymous
Let’s be clear. If OP’s story is even true and she didn’t lift it from some listserve...

then OP hit an animal and left it dying in agony behind her. Because there’s no evidence it died on the spot and not even OP says that. And she didn’t call animal control to put it out of its misery.

If you left a dead goose in the middle of the road and went home, even goose haters (hi!) will have a problem with that. You can't leave dead animals in the street and be a good neighbor.

Huh? Of course you can leave a dead animal in the road. I'm not getting out of my car to drag some wild animal carcass to the curb. Or what, put it in my car and drive it to the dump? You must be kidding.

Yes.

Op, you are fine. Lay low is a great idea. This will blow over. Stay off nextdoor if you can.
