Other than Priddy, who has my vote, who else of anyone running is from South Arlington?
|
To the person who posted this last comment-- you need to get up to speed on what the other candidates are doing. The only one most parents haven't heard of is your pal Cristina, maybe because she's barely lived in Arlington. Sandy Munnell has been teaching in APS since August 1997 and heavily involved in the Civic Federation Schools Committee (including advocating for more bond funding to build school capacity-- something the ACDC has been loathe to support). Dave Priddy is PTA president of TJ Middle School. Terron and Symone have both been on various APS boards for years. Cristina has led nothing. Showing up for a once a month BAC or JFAC meeting does not qualify anyone for School Board. The fact that Katie Cristol gave her a spot on the JFAC is just one more indication of how much ACDC is corrupting Arlington. It is embarrassing to be a Democrat in this county sometimes. |
Also, the person above who claims Cristina "helped implement ESSA"-- that made me spit out my coffee. She spent *1 year* as a legislative "fellow" in Senator Whitehouse's office-- which anyone on the Hill will tell you is a fancy name for an internship. Not to mention that most of the work implementing federal legislation gets done by the agencies and not on the Hill. But keep padding that resume Cristina. |
I’m an APS teacher and I’m supporting BOTH Cristina and Symone. I know this thread may lead you to believe otherwise, but you can actually vote for TWO women of color. I think the combination of the two is just the right amount of healthy tension we need on the board. |
OR you can actually vote for the candidates you think are best for the board, regardless of skin color. |
Clearly you are not everywhere yourself. Sandy has served on the Schools Committee for Civic Federation and she's been busy working as an APS employee - can't get any more involved than that! Priddy is serving as TJMS PTA president, TJ's representative to CCPTA, on the BLPC for the Career Center, on the superintendent's committee on equity, ran for school board last year which entails a tremendous amount of work and knowledge acquisition on a full range of issues, and a number of other committees that I can't recall right now. Terron? beats me where he spends his time. Going to Board meetings is all well and good and creates the impression you're on the job and involved and an opportunity to be seen and maybe meet a few people. I'd rather see them at the PTA meetings and running a PTA and serving on the School Board's advisory committees (yeah, Cristina has served on BAC, at least). |
They are the best fit for the school board. Our district is majority minority so why wouldn’t our leadership be reflective of that? |
Did anyone else hear Sandy use the word ethnic? I was floored. Way out of touch when it comes to diversity/inclusion. That was enough for me to cross her off my list personally. Sorry, it’s a no for me! |
Only the wokest will do in our fine commune. |
Because race and ethnicity is not a qualification and because the school age population is a great deal more diverse than older generations, largely due to changes in immigration policy since the 1960s. |
Our district is also at least half male, so why would we only have one man on the SB? |
Building off the ridiculousness that Christina helped shape ESSA....the law was signed in 2015 which means most of the “shaping” happened when Christina was still a STUDENT. It was signed when she was barely into her first ever job as a TFA ill-equipped teacher. Let’s vote for candidates with actual experience and roots in Arlington. |
Love all the republican taking points in this group. When the voters hear from Cristina personally, I believe her message will resonate with them. Change is coming! |
Heads up for those with minimal cultural competency. Cristina spells her name with no ‘h’. It is the Spanish version and spelling of her name. Oh yea, I’m also voting for her and Symone. Let’s go ladies! |
So criticizing someone for exaggerating their resume is a "republican talking point"-- no, it is not. At best it is dishonesty to exaggerate your work experience, and at worst an outright attempt at fraud. But then again, she is Katie's protégé, so to be expected. |
