Washington-Loving

Every comment I've seen against the name has nothing to do with whether the Lovings are well known- in fact, the vast majority of people commenting here and on at least two other Arlington public forums I've read know who the Lovings were and honor/respect/admire what they accomplished.

I'm not AA, but my parents were an interracial couple in Virginia (white/Asian). I grew up in Fairfax County.

Personally, I love the new name!

+1 It has nothing to do with not knowing who they are or thinking they are unworthy of honor. It's just the unfortunate fact that their name is also an adjective and sounds really weird in combination with Washington. I'd actually much prefer just Loving High School to Washington-Loving HS.

I think they are worthy of respect, but not necessarily honor.

It seems Ms Loving may not of been proud of her AA ancestry according to an article posted on this forum. I think that should be investigated before we name this school after this woman who was obviously black.
I’d rather the school be named after Harriet.

Great job DCUM, accusing a 16 year old passionate about an issue of doing it cause she’s “pc” and “wants it on her college application”. Gross.

Bless your heart. Meanwhile, the opinions of other students get ignored because they apparently aren’t as “passionate” about saying what some of the adults want to hear.

Another example of SB bending over backwards to give the appearance of being progressive but it is simply window dressing as long as they continue to draw school boundaries that perpetuate systematic racism.

Or they are other students who aren't running around playing little politician.

A cynic might say that’s exactly what fuels their enthusiasm for this name.

Is there even a lick of common sense on that committee?

Maybe, they can take a lesson from Prince:

"The School formerly known as Washington-Lee"

Oh my gross.
Arlington is just ridiculous

Come on... The first thought that comes to everyone's mind when they think of the Loving case is sex. Why would anyone choose to name a high school after this case?
What's next? Obergefell High?
