Actually, that period was the dawn of the skinny jeans, Jordache, Guess and Chic. Our skinny jeans were so skinny that you had to lay on a bed to get those non spandex denim jeans to zip.

And then you needed help just to get up off the bed.

I do not remember any skinny jeans then!

You don't remember Brook Shields' ad "nothing comes between my Calvin Klein's and me" when she was 16/17? It shocked a lot of people. We used baby powder to help get the jeans on.

Why not just buy a bigger size?

This makes no sense.

Because that was not the look.

Ariel in Footloose was who a lot of us wanted to emulate:

Because the fabric loosens over the course of the day as you wear them. The style was skin tight, so you had to start with them super tight in the morning.

I guess you had to be there! (And have you seen cold shoulder sweaters and peep toe boots? Now those make no sense.)

Exactly! Kids these days, they don't know anything. We didn't have spandex, lycra, stretch jeans in those days so if you wanted skin tight, you had to work to get in them. And the legs on mine were so skinny, they needed zippers at the ankles.

Ariel was so damn skinny. My daughter and I just watched Footloose last weekend.

That movie is almost 40 years old and I am still getting Facebook ads with Sarah Jessica Parker walking around in bras. How old is she now?

I thought DCUM was for younger people. Not grandmas and old fogeys talking about their clothing choices when they were you g

+1. No wonder eating disorders and distorted body image became so common among young white girls, with popular representations like this.

It’s for moms. Not everyone pops out a kid at 19.

How old are you guys?? When this movie came out, I was like 5. Don't think I've ever even seen it, just clips.

What are you doing on a parenting site?

Shouldn't you be taking your dog out to some craft beer garden instead of visiting dcum?

Most parents in this area start their families in their 30s to early 40s, so people who are middle school and high school when Footloose came out are parents of elementary through high school kids.
