Actually, that period was the dawn of the skinny jeans, Jordache, Guess and Chic. Our skinny jeans were so skinny that you had to lay on a bed to get those non spandex denim jeans to zip.

And then you needed help just to get up off the bed.

I do not remember any skinny jeans then!

You don't remember Brook Shields' ad "nothing comes between my Calvin Klein's and me" when she was 16/17? It shocked a lot of people. We used baby powder to help get the jeans on.

Why not just buy a bigger size?

This makes no sense.

Because the fabric loosens over the course of the day as you wear them. The style was skin tight, so you had to start with them super tight in the morning.

I guess you had to be there! (And have you seen cold shoulder sweaters and peep toe boots? Now those make no sense.)

Exactly! Kids these days, they don't know anything. We didn't have spandex, lycra, stretch jeans in those days so if you wanted skin tight, you had to work to get in them. And the legs on mine were so skinny, they needed zippers at the ankles.

Ah!

I had forgotten about zippers at the ankles.

Ahhh I had the jordaches with zippers at the ankles. Thanks for reminding me.

How old are you guys?? When this movie came out, I was like 5. Don't think I've ever even seen it, just clips.

What are you doing on a parenting site?

Shouldn't you be taking your dog out to some craft beer garden instead of visiting dcum?

Lol, what are YOU still doing on a parenting site? Since you couldn't do the math, I'm 40, and have a 2nd grader. Aren't your kids in college? Seems it's about time to find some other interests.

Footloose came out in 1984.

If you are 40 now, you would have been a little young for Footloose but older than 5.

Most of the people who were tweens and teens when Footloose was big have kids in elementary through high school. I have 4th through 10th graders, and was a middle school preteen when Footloose was big.

DP. Seems like you’re having a little trouble with math too.

I’m in my 40s (also with a second grader) and Footloose was a huge hit for me and my middle school friends at the time. I knew every line.

Need me to do the math for you?

lol. She would have been 6 years old!
You really think there’s that big a difference between a five year old and a six year old? Neither would have cared about a teen trend.

I have preschool kids and I wasn’t born in 1984.

I'm the 40 PP--ikr??

I checked and actually was not even 5 1/2 when the movie was released, though--it's still shocking these old heads can't fathom how that could be possible for someone who is 40 today. Maybe they're into their third glass of wine and are flummoxed.

Okay, I can understand that. One more question:

What if you had to go to the bathroom???
If the jeans are so difficult to put on that you need to lay down in bed what do you do if you’re out at dinner or at a party? Did you just never use the bathroom while wearing them? I really hope someone will respond because I’m really curious about this!

Equally shocking is that you think someone needs to be elderly to remember this movie. Maybe your second grader can help you with the math.

Agreed. Zippered Jordaches and the royal family do not belong in the same thread.

OK, well,.can everyone take their skinny jeans to a new thread and invite the Footloose posters? This is why we can't have nice things.

Everyone? Suspect all these royal posts aren't mostly 1-2 non-DC people from the nutty tumblr royal site pretending to be different people. A loves all things royal co-worker showed me back during the wedding. They are nuts! They love Kate, hate Meghan or vice versa, but mostly love Kate.

WTF is up with the PP who is 40 and takes great pleasure denigrating older people? Aging will happen to you too, PP, and it’s not terribly far off. Mocking people for their age is remarkably immature.
