Read the twitter replies. Most of them are calling him treasonous or some variation on that theme.

His supporters on that thread read like they’ve been huffing gasoline for years. More so than they usually do.

I just watched Fox for a bit and this seems to be the spin they're pushing. Trump isn't a politician, he's a salesman and all he knows is how to build personal relationships. So he's just trying to suck up Putin because he'll be able to use his amazing salesmanship and personal charm to get agreements from Putin.

Of course none of this explains why he's such a dick to our allies....

The NY Times analysis is scathing.

President Trump made one thing clear after his meeting with President Vladimir V. Putin on Monday: He is willing to take Mr. Putin’s word over those of his own intelligence agencies about whether the Russians tried to fix the 2016 election.

Such an admission by a president sworn to be the principal defender of the Constitution and America’s sovereignty in the world is extraordinary enough. But it was only one of several statements made by Mr. Trump, the likes of which no other American president has ever uttered on foreign soil.

He condemned the Justice Department’s investigation of his campaign’s ties to Russia as a “disaster for our county.” He suggested that the F.B.I. deliberately mishandled its investigation of Russia’s hacking of the Democratic National Committee. And he labeled an F.B.I. agent who testified about that investigation before Congress as a “disgrace to our country.”

In the fiery, disruptive, rules-breaking arc of Mr. Trump’s statecraft, the president’s remarks in Helsinki on Monday marked an entirely new milestone, the foreign policy equivalent of Charlottesville.

Also a scathing article from Fox News:

Yet on perhaps the most unsettling question of all — whether Russia had compromising material on the president — Mr. Putin offered Mr. Trump no comfort. Instead of simply saying no, he observed that Mr. Trump was one of hundreds of American business people who had visited Russia.

“Do you think we try to collect compromising material on each and every single one of them?” Mr. Putin asked.

Obviously he was always going to be out-foxed by Putin--he could be outfoxed by the King of Spain's 11-year-old daughter. But that was utterly craven and submissive. He's compromised in a BIG way.

In my lay opinion: Putin has intentionally done all of this in a way that makes Trump look terrible.

One possible explanation is that Putin's main goal is to humiliate Trump, and/or to humiliate the United States, by showing that he can make Trump put on a dress and sing Russian children's songs, if that's what he feels like doing.

Ah, so he confirmed the existence of kompromat.

I have my suspicions as to what’s on the tapes. And it ain’t pee.

I do have a serious question though for those of you and truly think you are witnessing the destruction or demise of America: What is it exactly that you fear is being destroyed? Do you really think that all the freedom you enjoy (and always have because nobody has been able to destroy it up to this point) is truly at risk? You'll have a new President in a few years. Even if something gets broke, it will be fixable.

What I fear is we may not have free and fair (its a relative phrase, but I mean not interfered by foreign power) election anymore. GOP will remain in power in 2018 and 2020. Trump will ruin all protections for citizens, pack the judiciary with incompetent sycophants and GOP will not have any check on him. Citizen will tune out news media and trump will curtail news media's power while empowering Fox (or some other media) as the state media. By 2024, we would be a authoritarian oligarchic country like Russia, having elections with no power in the hand of people.

Exactly this!

When is the breaking point with the American people? When social security is gone? We have a massive financial crisis from all the debt? What exactly will it take if this doesn't do it? Or are we too fat, dumb, and lazy with the NFL #1 on our minds?

I vote for fat dumb and lazy. There should have been an outcry 10 years ago but instead the GOP consolidated its grip on idiots and here we are today.

The low-information idiot bloc is its base.

Keep telling yourself that. White middle class voters are his base. I'm white and middle class but not one of his supporters. The Democratic Party made the massive mistake of focusing on "identity" voters (minorities, gay people, cop haters, union activists). Jobs and health care are the concerns of most Americans and the Democrats really didn't address those issues in any meaningful way. The result is that we have a Russian loving blowhard who spews treasonous statements in front of the world.

Will this finally convince trump supporters that trump is a traitor?

My take: two leaders agreeing to disagree on some issues, but both man enough to meet on issues they agree on. If some crisis arises, it'll be far easier for Trump to pick up the phone and call Putin now that they've met.

Trudeau, Macron and others had a learning opportunity today.

That's quite a hot take you've got there

Useful idiot.

Interesting contrast in body language.

It’s hard to walk upright after bending over and assuming the position. Especially at Trump’s age. But at least Putin looks... “satisfied”.

At least Mr. Grab her by the... Now knows how the grandees felt.

Warmup for prison.
