The GDP of Russia is 62nd in the world. It’s crippled economically. It barely has a single aircraft carrier.

So then why exactly do we need a huge alliance to defend ourselves from them?

FYI, NATO's article 5 for mutual defence has been invoked once, after 9/11. Al Qaeeda also did not have a large GDP, but NATO came to our assistance. NATO protects against the disruptions Russia can do in Europe, as well as enable coordination against other threats. Its part of the security architecture that has protected democracy in the post war world. It may well need to evolve to deal with threats like cyber war, but it is not obsolete, and the current admin in its official positions does not say that it is.

I was hanging out with a friend in national security today. He said that that intelligence agencies are PISSED! Many of them voted for Trump and now they won't stop until they find out what Putin has on them. They want to take Trump down.

NY Times is reporting that Trump was briefed on irrefutable evidence of Russian activity with the 2016 election in his transition period. Thus, anything since is at best Obstruction of Justice and at worst, treason.
