The timing is equally uncertain - it is unlikely (IMO) that it will happen for the 18-19 school year, but likely it will occur for the 19-20 school year (assuming it happens at all). There isn't a single good resource for information about the move because it's still an uncertainty. Three things to consider: (1) although LAMB has not been great about communications with parents, it appears that the new administration is trying to be better, (2) if/when you get an offer (and I think with #26 you stand a good chance) you will have an opportunity to tour the school (if it's during the summer you can ask to tour the campus where the summer camp is held), (3) we were like you (through our name in, because why not, and then were surprised by an offer) and have been thrilled so far. If you have other questions, I can try to answer them.

Thanks so much for this - sounds like if/ when it's time to make a decision, we'll have to do so without a clear picture on the long-term commute. I would love to hear your perspective on how Spanish immersion has gone for your children - have you supported it outside of the classroom? My family is 100% for language immersion, but not necessarily Spanish (we speak english and another european language at home). In theory we love the idea of a bilingual education but want to go in with our eyes open with regards to the amount of extra effort it'll take as a family. Thanks so much for your perspective!

We've provided some support out of the classroom. My kids were in a Spanish-language day care so they already came in with some exposure. We've also done what I think of as the easy outside-the-school support. For example, we go to LAMB's summer camp so there's no big break (but we needed camp anyways, and this is easy), all TV is in Spanish (but again, with Netflix, this is easy), we take advantage of Spanish-language story hours and kids books in libraries (DCPL offers both of these, so again, it's relatively easy). My kids definitely prefer English but have no problems understanding Spanish and will speak Spanish with some prompting - it seems to be going well.

There are many trilingual families at lamb. I can’t speak to the difficulty, but I do know of several.

How has the charter board not weighed in?

A move to the Kingsbury building wouldn't happen until 2019-20. LAMB hasn't taken the proposal to the charter board yet.

This has not been announced formally. Lamb’s Board is terrible, and totally unresponsive. Don’t be surprised if they move anyway.

Well they can't move until the charter board approves it. And the charter board has to put it out for public comment for a minimum of 60 days.

they do not have confirmation of their location because this is still in the hands of the Board of Zoning Adjustment to create final language that would allow for the move to Kingsbury. It is DC government at work right now, not LAMB being unable to make a decision.

Actually the Board has been responsive about this. And not terrible.

I am another new parent. I asked at a new parent tour last week- they will be in their current locations for next school year, hoping for Kingsbury for the 19-20 school year.

well that sucks, because they haven't told the parents anything final yet, and shouldn't be announcing things like this at tours.

Also, people in the admin seem to say different things. Their word isn't necessarily fact.

Strongly, strongly disagree. They have been absolutely terrible. Everyone thinks so- trashing the board is almost a sport at lamb.

Lamb could say that the decision is taking too long and next year we will be at south Dakota. Or they could do their usual and make a bad situation worse. See Fernandez matter, see Diane Cottman resignation.

So why don’t they formally announce that? Can’t move due to the 60 day comment period?

The board is so unprofessional and negligent in their duties it is astounding. Really astounding.

Are you high? They have given parents zero real information.

They just sent a message out about this a few days ago. Now if they can’t decide by the end of April I’d be raising hell. As for now give it a few days.

They are trying to roll us past the May 1 enrollment date elsewhere.

That would be shitty. But I don’t see why? It won’t help.

I can’t believe this level of negligence from a Board. Can prospective parents email them? If not I’ll just call the charter board tomorrow. This is so unprofessional.
