So, there isn't one member if the armed forces who currently take a pill or pills for something on a daily basis? No generals taking Lipitor? Whee does the military stand, say, if a man who survived testicular cancer wants to join? Or a woman who developed breast cancer at 22 and list both breasts? |
They often do that - for people who want to join and are poised or interested in pursuing surgery, they are made to wait a certain amount of time before joining up. |
Transgenders come in all sorts of choices. Some have surgery. Some don't. Some are just coming "out"--some have been open for years. There are even issues with some people over hormones. It is a very complicated issue. Counseling is usually involved, etc. There are all sorts of things to be worked out here. And, if someone is having surgery, and you don't understand that this could have an impact on physical conditioning or combat readiness, you need to learn a little more. Do they pass the male test or the female test? Are they transgender only if they have surgery or not? As for combat readiness, I suggest you read the twitter thread that was posted earlier. The one from the guy who had been on a firebase in Iraq. " |
Plenty in the military take daily meds, yes. PP is uninformed. |
Nice to know that they're throwing people's lives and careers into turmoil because of Trump's wall. And that craven Republicans will use their puppet Trump to get rid of transgender service people, just like that. |
Do you know what the "T" stands for in LGBT? |
A frightening first. |
Whoa -- I was actually pointing that out in favor of the trans troops. My point is that this idea that you could have a pure post-op DADT policy is impossible. Trans troops will be "out," at least to their doctors, unless they choose to serve as the gender assigned at birth and never act as their true gender. |
I heard on the news today that the cost of health care for transgendered service members is about 1/5 of what the military spends on Viagra. |
| This is crazy! You all act like Trump is some outer world thinker and all knowing expert on everything. This is just another example of his impulsiveness and his propensity to be led astray by Bannon, Miller et al. He has an experienced team of military leaders - experts. He has a very competent SOD. None of them were consulted. That would be a red flag in normal times. But some of you all are enamored of him, that whatever he does is sugar and soda pop. |
| Trump made this decision because he was obviously traumatized during his long and distinguished military career. Oh wait... |
I understand what you're saying. I'm just pointing out that both they and the government could simply approach the situation the way we would handle other health issues. Then the transgender individual, just like everyone else, needs to weigh the risks and benefits of his or her chosen line of work and consider the nature of their situation. If you want to join, complete your reassignment and take your pills and serve. But if your pills are getting in the way of serving- if you're not comfortable taking meds in front of others or the pills make you sick, this the military isn't for you. And I'd say the same regarding any health issue from flatulence to lymphoma. |
| Out if curiosity, how does China handle this issue? They've got a pretty big military one would not mess with. |
DISTRAXT, DISTRACT. And Dems and media have fallen for this hook, line & sinker |

If there was ever a question about whether Trump's tweets are official statements from the White House, this particular communication should put it to rest.
