Transgenders come in all sorts of choices.  Some have surgery.  Some don't.  Some are just coming "out"--some have been open for years.  There are even issues with some people over hormones.  It is a very complicated issue.  Counseling is usually involved, etc.  There are all sorts of things to be worked out here.  And, if someone is having surgery, and you don't understand that this could have an impact on physical conditioning or combat readiness, you need to learn a little more.  
Do they pass the male test or the female test?  Are they transgender only if they have surgery or not?  As for combat readiness, I suggest you read the twitter thread that was posted earlier.  The one from the guy who had been on a firebase in Iraq.
