What have you bought that was a complete waste of money?

--Treadmill. Christ, what was I thinking. Now it is a very expensive coat rack.
--all the furniture I've ever purchased from Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, and Crate & Barrel. Looks so nice in the catalogues, its what all my hipster friends purchase....and they are also unmitigated overpriced pieces of crap. Finally wisened up and now go with the hand me down SOLID pieces of furniture that will last forever and stand up to 2 kids and 3 pets.
--nice sheets. They feel so good, but at $400+ for a king set, it makes me sick when something inevitably stains it.
--expensive soaking tub in our master bath. I never take a bath. I fucking hate baths. Should have put in a really nice shower.

Truthfully?

Vegetables.

I imagine that I will cook vegetables and people will eat them. Never happens.

The $8-$10 a day (5 days a week) that I spend on lunches because I am too lazy to pack them before work. Could prepare and pack much healthier and cheaper lunches to bring. Grrrrr!

I second this! About a month ago I dropped about $40-50 on pyrex bowls w/ lids...the kind that can go in the freezer, microwave, oven etc. (Well not the lids.) I have started making meals on Sunday and putting them in the individual sized pyrex bowls and I have lunch for 4 days and can eat out the 5th. It's never anything fancy, and yes it's the same thing all week but still...saves a lot of money, it's healthier and it motivates me to try all those recipes I've saved. This weekend I made a roast though...will probably do french dips for a couple of days before it runs out.

Air purifier. $300, and my house is as dusty and pet-smell-filled as ever. I so wanted it to work!

Guitar and electronic keyboard. I really wanted to learn to read music and play instruments, but it just wasn't in the cards. The funny thing is I didn't even want to play guitar or keyboard, I just bought those because everyone said they were easy to learn!

Its not one thing in particular but most of the "little" things that I pick up here-and-there. The pretty note cards, fancy napkins, just about anything that I don't actually need. Its never expensive but if I added up all the crap it would be a LOT. I have had to just stop going to the store unless it was for something specific and then only buying exactly what I need.

Bike trailer for my kid. He'd much rather be in control and bike himself (even though he can't).

Bosch dishwasher. What a loud piece of junk that doesn't actually dry the dishes.

Power washer purchased by my husband. Tools purchased by my husband. $1000 plus built in microwaves when I wanted to convert cabinets to a shelf with plugin. On the third in 15 years---they don't last. Again bought by DH. $1400 pizza reheater and popcorn machine.

All this is making me think.... we need a DCUM yard sale! There are many things that I would like to get my hand on. What size are those Manolos?

Ok, and for those who purchased treadmills, I am thinking of getting one. What are the reasons you don't use them? Did you buy cheap ones or expensive ones? Do you live in an apt or home?

And for my complete waste spenditures:
Fancy dresses. I have an event and will drop $$$ and only wear it once and then never again.
Uncomfortable lingerie/ bras/ panties. What can I say- I'm a sucker for pretty little slips of silk. But they are way too uncomfortable and end up in my drawer never worn.
The crib. DD slept in the crib.... never.
Knick Knacks. Ok, I'm also a sucker for pretty little pieces of... junk. A vase here, a cool candleholder here, a decorative bowl here, and we got a whole lot of crap. I dust... a lot.
A really really expenisve rug that I think is horribly ugly now but that DH insists we use because I spent so much $ on.

I feel like I should also mention the things that for me were a great purchase and that I used a lot.
FOr me the Bumbo was amazing. In fact, we still use it and DD is a year.
The Bjorn was great, the bottle warmer was great also. See- this is why we need to have a yard sale because your junk IS my treasure

LMAO at the $1400 pizza reheater. Sounds like something my DH would buy.
