Is it just me, or does this area seem to come up a lot after storms as far as road conditions are concerned? |
Where are you posting from ^^? Annandale is bad too - fwiw. Shrug |
This sounds like a nonessential central office person trying to justify bringing people in for no reason. |
|
FWIW, our building supervisor sent an email telling people to please not even try to access the building today because it’s not safe. Apparently no central facilities help was provided, so it was all on the custodians with their shovels and snowblowers that don’t work on ice.
I really would love to hear the logic behind trying to make 12 month folks report. |
Which school? |
| I think people need to acknowledge this was an usually messy storm because of the ice on top of the snow and give everyone some grace and patience. I've shoveled snow in deeper snow but the ice from this one made things really hard. |
My principal sent an email last night telling everyone to stay away from the building. The parking lot has not been touched yet. That job is contracted out. |
This! It’s really unusual that we’ve had snow + sleet followed by sub-20 temperatures for days following. We have to wait until Monday for temps to get above 30. |
And the sub 20 temps mean the salt isn't as effective in melting the snow. Salt just lowers the freezing temperature of water, standard concentration isn't enough under certain temps. |
I’m in this area too and I assume it’s because we’re more heavily residential vs. commercial and a lot of people live deep into neighborhoods several streets off a main road. It seemed like the main roads like the county parkway, Burke Center, Old Keene etc. are ok, but other than that it’s still dicey. Snow/ice is piled up in the travel lanes, and some neighborhood roads are down to essentially one lane. |
| Are grocery stores restocked? |
We went to the Burke Target yesterday, and they were out of a lot of things, but still had enough stock of essentials. |
At Giant and perishables items were not restocked (produce, bakery, meat, some dairy items). Things that were wiped out prior to the storm (bread aisle, frozen pizzas, etc) not restocked. This was yesterday evening so maybe the trucks have arrived by now. |
| I assume school will restart on Monday, but I am starting to worry with the way things are going, that not all roads, parking lots, and sidewalks, will be clear and safe by then. I am new to this area (from the South) and wonder how things usually work. Will local governments and school officials plow and salt all the roads and parking lots in time? In the past, how much has the community relied upon higher temperatures to melt all the ice? |
Aren’t we going to have snow again this Saturday and Sunday? |
