They deleted the old Snowstorm post. Post here instead.

Since they deleted the old post, we can use this one instead. What do we think that chances are that fcps closes on wednesday?
Anonymous
Why was it deleted. 95% chance they close. We’re having a deep freeze starting tonight.

-2 degrees in the morning when kids are walking to school?? How many kids should get frostbite so parents have free daycare?? Also Fairfax does not have winter fronts for the busses. So no heat in the busses for the kids.

I just got an email about some storm related damage in the area around the school I work at, so I expect it will take a minute for everything to be cleaned up and that we will be off Wednesday too.

If we do it has to be a 2 hour delay. The bus stops are buried and it won’t be safe for the kids to walk/stand in the street in the dark.

I’m the OP of that thread. For some reason it got moved to the Weather forum.

OP here again. I asked Jeff if he could move it back to the FCPS forum as it’s nice to discuss school closures there. Haven’t heard back yet.

I’m hoping for full closure on Wednesday. I had appointments for my kids for after the early dismissal times and if we end up with a delay, that would force the day to be a normal end time and it means I’d have to reschedule the appointments or pull them out of school.

Proponent of open schools here, but this week is different. The roads are awful in my neighborhood. Really, really bad, and I live in a subdivision--not hilling, winding roads. School buses would have a terrible time. Sidewalks are icy, too.

Don't electric busses stop working when it gets cold?

And if they can mange to turn on the electric busses in cold weather, they have to run them with the heaters off so the battery doesn't drain and stop the bus fr tunning?

It's going to be closed. Less than half the houses on my street have any sidewalk remotely clear.

2 hour delay plus 2 hour early release has to equal closure.

They lose some range, but they start up and run much better than the diesel busses do. I think they all still have plenty of range for urban areas like ours. It's only a concern for long bus routes in rural areas.
