ICE is now arresting preschoolers and sending them to detention centers

People are telling all these lies about ICE. Suggests they really do not have that many real stories of ICE misbehavior.

“School board member Mary Granlund said she was on the scene and told immigration officials she could take Liam Ramos, but they still detained him.”

Hand kids over to strangers? That's what led to this mess.

Schools have a responsibility to their students

ICE has no such responsibility. I know which is better

But also wondering - as the media and PPs are accepting at face value that the father has a pending asylum claim, per the attorney. I’m assuming, if he does, then he will be interviewed while in detention, as is still happening. It may be that he goes through the process and is not found eligible for asylum. What do you make of this?

It’s no use to be objective or logical with this crowd. The people want to be outraged, so the people will be outraged. There’s no such thing as a fake asylum claim! #believealleconomicmigrants

ICE has no way of vetting a stranger to know that she is an appropriate person to take custody of the child. As much as this is a horrible thing for Liam to endure, having a child is not a get out of jail free card, and at the end of the day, the child stayed with his father. Who knows where the mom was.

Asylum is for those fearing for their lives, not those who have a home in a poorer country and would rather live in a richer country.
If ICE had handed this poor child over to a non-relative you'd all be crying about families being separated.
But I suggest you take your kids over to a nice shiny country like Japan, apply for asylum, enroll your kids in school there and see how they roll out the red carpet for you. I'm sure Japanese people will be in tears over your plight.

You can't just hand over a child to someone because they asked for them. If you were taken to jail for whatever reason, should the police give your kid to a school board member?

what? A child is not going to prison with their parents if they committed a crime.. did the father have an opportunity to place a child with another adult? Actions/policies need to be protective of the child..

When January 6th happened, I said that unless we hang these folks for treason on the National Mall, things will get much much worse.

Any decent person is horrified at what is happening. The punishment for this must be severe, there is no reforming these people.

Ecuador has essentially been a failed state for a number of years now. It’s perfectly plausible that he has a valid claim to asylum.

No?

Didn't think so.
They were there to arrest the father, who fled. Now the kid is coming home from school with no one there.

The only report that he fled is coming from DHS. No one believes a word they say anymore.

Are the prisons in Texas equipped to handle children? Do they have little orange jumpsuits that fit five year olds? Are there playgrounds so during the 30-minute outdoor break, kids can play?

Is there assigned seating during lunch, so the kid can sit between all the other adults and see that there are no other kids around and wonder why this happened to him?
